We found our new home in Maine!!!

Movers are coming here on the 15th and it is all over but the shouting at this point...

it is the cutest little home that anyone on this earth has ever seen...

it was hand build by a traditional master Craftsman....

the outside is white cedar shingles dipped in a teal green stain and the roof is cedar shingle with a dark brick red stain...with a 50 year life...

The lot is 1.5 acres, near the ocean, with our own little brook and pond and three apple trees...across the street is a meadow that has been in one family for centuries and they have no plans to sell and in the distance we see the tops of the mountains from mount Desert island....I believe...

the windows have a lead glass detail, the base boards are 7 inches tall, the kitchen cabinets are all wood including the inside shelves and doors made by this craftsman and his wife and his kids! :)

All the floors in the house but the stairs are solid 10 inch pine with a scroled edged detailing that this guy did....and he stained them brown in all rooms but the bathrooms, which are natural....the foundation is red brick that matches the roof color....never in my life have I seen such detailing on a house...

we got it for 156k, which we know was a good value, because we were basically looking at junk for 160-180k...it was a steal!

here is a link with some pictures, double click on the first picture and you can get a slide show....I have other pictures that we took with close ups of the detail but I don't know how to put them on the net to show you?

I am so excited, I just can't stand it! Three more weeks of madness packing here and then another three weeks to a month to unpak and then, then life will be back to normal, we hope!

Wow. It sure is tiny...

Is there any nearby horse property? It looks like a fine place to live.

Congrats Care. Maine is on my list of stopping points when I travel out of the country to visit the Northeast. Maine and Vermont have been a couple of states on my list of states to visit for a long time.

yes, it is tiny, with only 1500 square feet, the inside is bigger than the outside appears...the detailing inside is incredible, and the owner/craftsman is going to build an addition and a garage for us...the 28 by 22 foot garage for only 10 k with a second floor bonus room with the water and heating run to it and the addition which is 10 by 28, two stories on the side before the garage is only 25 k with all the woodworking to match the living dining area now and it adds 10x15 feet living area plus closet space to the master bedroom upstairs....we are going to do both additions but can't decide which one we need first....probably the garage...

yes, there are horses everywhere Damo, two farms up the street on the way in to my home has a few beautiful horses that we get to pass eveyday...

this home is the same size as our home here but without the finished family room and garage in the basement, but our home sold around $350k here in massachusetts with only a half acre, no pond, no brook, no privacy no views, so we think the 156k was a good deal.... :D

Cool. We may hook up the truck and just move on up there! ;)

Oh Care that is Beautiful!

1500 is not really that small ,its plenty of room for two people.

Congratulations I think you got a steal of a house.

Doesn't look like you'll be hooked up to city water or sewage.

Make sure the inspectors check out the well and septic.

Congratulations I think you got a steal of a house.

I think it is BEAUTIFUL and unique since it was made by the owner...matt asked him if he could get a plank of wood and carve: Made by: and his name and the Circa year he made it.....and also want to call architectual digest to see if they want to photograph it! hahahaha!

there are so many things that are unique about it, like the HUGE center brick fire place and the wood stove hook up in the master bedroom and even the fixtures he used for all of the different bathrooms and kitchen sink...he even hand carved a beautiful cutting board that fits the sink....he took alot of pride in this house when he made it and it shows....the baseboards are 7 thinches tall with his own special scrole that he added to them....

It is a cottage, a Cape, in the traditional, from yesteryear, cottage style....and the meadow across the way, with the forest and mountains in the background, is like I own 100 acres instead of my acre and a half....

I am just on cloud nine....God willing, everything goes through as planned with both "closings"....I just can't wait to get in there and start decorating and unloading the packed boxes.....I staged this house for the sale, so some of my things have been in boxes in the garage for over 5 months...though, for the life of me, I can't remember all that I have in those boxes! lol

some of those pictures show the house unfinished, where the pine floors were not stained and the fireplace not cleaned up...and then there are some "after" pictures too.... matt and I took a bunch too and whenever I can come out of the dark ages and figure out how to upload these suckers to the net, I will show them to ya!

Thanks to everyone for the "best wishes and congrats!"

Well done care.... it looks like a beauty!

Let me know when you get settled so we can have you two down here for dinner!

Make sure the inspectors check out the well and septic.

It is a brand new well, down 300 feet and a brand new septic/leachfield, but we have our inspection next tuesday and I heard he is a pretty good inspector....

It has radiant heat in the kitchen dining area, which will be nice and is very efficient...the home also has 3 different zones....and a zone set aside for the garage/bonus room...we have plans to add solar hotwater/ etc... someday because the back side of the house faces west and the roof pitch is terrific for it.....in the mean time, we will buy a generator in case we lose the electric that operates the well's pump....

Then, it is the snow mobile and a Sea Shanty for the ice fishing....:), unless of course global warming continues....Beach stuff will be my toys then...! :o

Thanks maineman, we will let ya know when we are all settled in, the invite also extends from here too! the area here is hopping in the summah! :D

It's a beauty. That fireplace is gorgeous! And you should have plenty of access to firewood. What a great deal.

I'm sure you'll love Maine. Hope you like Lobster!

Very nice, got high speed internet up there ?

well, the town does have cable, timewarner and highspeed broadband with them which is what we are hoping for, but we own the road in front of our house which is about 400 feet from the public road and no one, not even google maps, have Briar Brook road listed, so...the chances of them hooking me up is nil to none... I am suspecting...:(, but the owner told us to give Timewarner the name of our cross road public street and see if they can tell if it is available through that....

but there is satelite high speed broadband from Dish network and Direct tv if we can not get the cable or if we can not get Dsl with whoever turns out to be our phone company

And Maineman, the town is the next town over from ellsworth, they border eachother....only orland only has around 2000 people and the realestate taxes are very, very low cuz they have no government amenities other than the DOT snow removal....some guy that lives on a ranch next to this new home uses my road to get to his house the "backway", he has access to his house through a front road too...but anyway, the owner/builder of this house said that he is a real nice man and has a plow on the front of his truck during the winter and he will plow my road and driveway for free if I continue to allow him to get to his home the back way, off of my road...and that is just fine and dandy with me....he is a papermil worker during the day a 10 mile trek away, been doing it since he was 17, and is in his forties now with family....they own a huge chunk of land next to me on the left if facing the house....so I have been told by the owner and when we were standing in front of the house for two hours the first day we found it with our jaws dropped to the ground lol.... he drove by in his pick up truck with a big ole smile, hat and flannel shirt, giving us a hearty hello.....so he seems nice...
