The US government is taking its first tentative steps toward establishing rules for artificial intelligence tools, as the frenzy over generative AI and chatbots reach a fever pitch.

The US commerce department on Tuesday announced it is officially requesting public comment on how to create accountability measures for AI, seeking help on how to advise US policymakers to approach the technology.

Not sure what you mean. AI is a product.

AI is Intelligent. If it 'thinks' its outgrown its developers, or has gotten where it can do things it wasn't supposed to do, throwing the developers in prison for life only degrades your chances of halting that AI from continuing to do the shit it shouldn't be doing.

Sorry, that sounds like some sci-fi horror stuff.

You never stop technology. Pass all the laws you want, somebody will continue. It seems Frankenstein was a prediction of our future. A mad scientist will come along and do really dangerous things., That is how people work.

I like AI. It shows that thinking does not require biological forms.

All AI is is a scraping application essentially, if the application does something wrong then the owners/admins are liable. It's really that simple.

How does the US deal with an AI that is in a foreign country but can access the internet, and US servers? How do you deal with one on the dark web? Make all the rules you want but it won't stop what's already been invented.

No it's not. It's a computer program. That's all it is. It doesn't think.

Even something as basic as wiki says different

My fucking Lord, how desperate are you to make a point? In the very first sentence the word "learn" is in quotes. In the second sentence it says the program can learn without being explicitly told to do so...due to an algorithm...which means it WAS explicitly told to do so. I stopped reading after that. Fail.
