TS what you say we need is EXACTLY what the uber rich are terrified of and why they are so invested in making sure culture wars are pushed.
All polling shows that both the Left and Right truly have the same deep frustrations with government. They want better work conditions and worker rights, better infrastructure, better services from gov't, more investment in SS and so on and so on.
Citizens were increasingly frustrated and checking out and the fear is a Bernie type or Trump who could rally the masses on both sides would really transform this country for the better by strengthening these things that would see the rich forced to pay their fare share and leave no money for endless tac cuts and new corporate bonuses for them.
So the uber rich could see this growing frustration on both sides and recognized it as the greatest risk to them. One uniter getting super majorities of the vote with a populist platform.
They have been very skilled in countering that by identifying the far right, while very frustrated also had a lot of repressed hate and rage in them they could weaponize to ensure all those frustrations were channeled that way instead, into battles that would harm us all to the benefit of the rich, of into something productive that would improve all our lives while requiring the rich pay their share.
So sadly we are stuck as the angry, hateful and frustrated qualities of the right coupled with them being dumb is the perfect combination to be manipulated by the rich to their personal benefit instead, as Trump has shown.
