WHAT A WASTE

HOW TO WASTE $200,000,000+ A DAY FOR YOUR OWN AMUSMENT

Obama will be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his two-day stay there beginning Saturday. The measure has been taken as Mumbai attack in 2008 took place from the sea.

Arrangements have been put in place for emergency evacuation, if needed.

Obama is expected to fly by a helicopter -- Marine One -- from the city airport to the Indian Navy's helibase INS Shikra at Colaba in south Mumbai.

From there, he will drive down in Lincoln Continental -- the Presidential limousine -- to the nearby the Taj Hotel.

Two jets, armed with advanced communication and security systems, and a fleet of over 40 cars will be part of Obamas convoy.

Around 800 rooms have been booked for the President and his entourage in Taj Hotel and Hyatt.

The President will have a security ring of American elite Secret Service, which are tasked to guard the President, along with National Security Guards (NSG) and personnel from central paramilitary forces and local police in Mumbai and Delhi.

I call bee ess. This is the only site with this info; all the others link to it.

Show me another site with these same numbers, independently computed, and I'll take it a little more seriously.

Like his residency issue, only The Obama can reveal the real truth of what this trip is costing. He won't, because either he's out of touch with the American people or he doesn't want us to know the answer.

The trip hasn't even happened yet. Is the WH supposed to be clairvoyant?

I'm pretty sure we get the cost of political jaunts after they've actually taken place.

Watch the news or read your newspaper, boob.....stay away form MSNBC.

You think they can't estimate the cost...????

This bullshit vacation is gonna cost the taxpayers about 2 BILLION DOLLARS, unless Keith Olbermann or Chis Mathews does the math.

His wife just costs us $400,000 for her little lark in Spain, for absolutely nothing.

Read and learn, bozo.

"A top official of the Maharashtra government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit has reckoned..."

1. Who is the "top official"?
2. How is the "top official" privy?
3. How does the "top official" know so much about U.S. spending for presidential trips that he can allege this amount for a two-day jaunt?
4. Reckon: approximate, conjecture, guess, gauge, surmise

The U.S. has already denied one of NDTV's outrageous claims.

Washington: Dismissing news reports as totally absurd, the US has denied that it has moved some 34 war ships around Mumbai, where President Barack Obama would arrive on the wee hours of Saturday, the Pentagon has said.

"That's just comical. Nothing close to that is being done," Pentagon spokesman, Geoff Morrell, told reporters at a news briefing.

Morrell was responding to questions about news reports appearing in various Indian media that the Pentagon has deployed a substantial number of its resources in India before the visit of the US President to India.

Here's an early Christmas gift for you, lummox. Wear it in good health.

Pentagon Dismisses Reports of 34 Warships for Obama Trip Security
November 04, 2010 5:17 PM

ABC News' Luis Martinez reports:

The Pentagon did not mince words in dismissing as “absolutely absurd” and “comical” media reports from Indian news outlets that the US Navy was sending 34 warships off the coast of Mumbai as part of the security preparations for President Obama’s upcoming trip to India.

Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell did not shy away from dismissing reports that appeared in Indian media outlets, such as the Press Trust of India and the television network NDTV. The Press Trust of India is that country’s largest news agency.

Morrell told reporters he was making an exception to the practice of not discussing Presidential security details to shoot down the reports.

“I will take the liberty this time of dismissing as absolutely absurd this notion that somehow we were deploying 10 percent of the Navy -- some 34 ships and an aircraft carrier -- in support of the president's trip to Asia,” said Morrell at today’s Pentagon briefing. “That's just comical. Nothing close to that is being done."

He acknowledged that a Presidential trip requiring security needs “should not come as a surprise to anyone” and that the Defense Department “does play a role in support of Presidential missions.” He said it was customary to not discuss such security requests, but “I made an exception in batting down this absurd notion of there being 34 ships, or more than 10 percent of the Navy, deployed in support of this trip. That is most certainly not the case.”

The Indian media reports also say security for the Presidential trip will cost $200 million a day. Morrell “there's been a lot of creative writing that's been done on this trip over the last few days. I've seen other reports with some astronomical figures in terms of what it costs to take these trips. I don't know the cost. We don't speak to the cost.” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs was blunt in his characterization of the cost reports, “this trip doesn't cost $200 million a day.”

Referring to the reports about the 34 warships GIbbs said, “The Department of Defense has said, as we have, that that's simply not true.” Gibbs would only say the costs were comparable to the costs incurred by Presidents George W. Bush and Clinton to the region.

A Navy spokesman said “we do not comment on Presidential security,” but provided some statistics about the Navy’s deployment schedule that help put the Indian media reports into some context.

There are 288 ships in the Navy’s fleet, currently 147 of them are away from their home port and at sea. 110 of the 147 are deployed on missions, the other 37 are involved in training. Those numbers translate to 51 percent of the total fleet being at sea right now and 38 percent of the fleet being deployed.

Using the number of 34 warships being reported by Indian media outlets, 34 ships out of 288 would mean 11.8 percent of the fleet would supposedly be working Obama security.

Its so like you liberals not to be able to budget for something simple like a trip. Yet y'all blasted Bush for not giving exact costs and dates for the Iraq war.

Oooooops!

34 Warships, eh?

LOL. Wow. It took how long to get half that many near Afghanistan? Jeebus.

That being said, if there is a goal to save money, to pinch pennies so to speak, trips like this are enormously expensive (not $200 Million per day but definitely very expensive) and would be just one thing we could cut back on a bit that along with other things would make a difference.

As the article above states, they're not moving 10% of the US navy into that harbor.

Denials coming in left and right....

200 Million a day now called bullshit....

Admin. says the cost of trip is "in line" with trips taken by Clinton and Bush....(that would mean about 5 or 6 million a day????....I don't know)

but they won't give an estimate...

I sure hope thats true....my BP is returning to normal....

Lesson to learn....don't trust New Delhi Television!

Strange. I was trying to find the cost of Clinton's and bush's trips to India and struck out. Wonder why those numbers aren't being batted around, just for the sake of comparison?

This is just another dopey controversy coming from idiots who don't have enough brainpower to separate serious issues from sh*t-stirring.
