"Black British" is used by the British authorities to mean UK passport holders of African or African-Caribbean origin. "African British" is gaining in popularity, from what I hear.

There are some who would argue that the increasing number of hyphenated identifiers as well as the increasing number of immigrants who resist adopting American culture is leading to a Balkanization of the U.S.
So? Some would argue that it's socialism that caused the market collapse...in fact some are arguing that. There's always some fool to argue pretty much any absurdity.

Its not a matter of anyone permitting anything. What a person calls themself is not subject to laws or debate.
I also think that this practice of the hyphenated naming has not done anything to join us together closer.
We need comonalities, not things that separate us further.
I am an american. You, Darla, are an american. BAC is an american. That way we all work towards things that are good for us all.
Otherwise, BAC wants what is best for african-americans, I want what is best for southern irish-americans, and you want what is best for .......well, for whatever hyphenated name you want to create. (NewYorkerwithyoungskin-american?)
Forced diversity has taught us to see each other based on race, gender, sexual orientation ect.
I think the best thing for us is to forget those details. When it boils down to it, we are each individuals. And we can do more together than separately.
