According to Newsweek: "Trump spent much of his campaign promising to bring back coal, an industry that he said then-President Barack Obama had demoralized with too many regulations. So in July when Trump declared at a rally that he had created 45,000 coal jobs since the start of his presidency, many coal miners rejoiced.
"since the beginning of Trump's presidency, just 1,200 coal-mining jobs have been created, according to monthly reports by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In fact, the 1,200 coal jobs during Trump's presidency thus far are just 100 more than were created between August and December 2016 under President Obama."
Now it turns out that the real concerns for coal miners is not jobs -- it's pensions. Retired miners collect a pension — but the fund is on its way to insolvency. McConnell, who represents a coal state, is silent, at least so far, on solving this problem. Coal miners and their union and other supporters went big for Trump in 2016, and Hillary never helped her chances when she said that she wanted to put coal miners out of work.
But how the Donald turns. He gives not a whit for their pension problems. And neither do most Republicans. But guess who does?
According to Reuters:
"The main U.S. coal miners’ union is set to endorse two Democrats running for Congress in West Virginia, two sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday - a boost for Democrats trying to win over a constituency that voted heavily for Republican Donald Trump in 2016.
"The United Mine Workers of America on Friday will endorse Richard Ojeda for U.S. Representative in the state’s third district, as well as incumbent Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat and former West Virginia governor, the sources said. They asked not to be named as they were discussing a confidential matter.
"The union sees Ojeda and Manchin as supportive of major issues facing coal miners, particularly efforts to preserve their pensions, the sources said. In addition, neither candidate has fully embraced the Democratic Party’s push for climate regulation, a sticking point for miners."
It looks like more and more Trump supporters are starting to wake up to the fact that he did nothing more than con them for their support.
It was too late, Obama had already crippled the industry, as he promised he would. Leftists, always looking out for the little guy.
