You mean my parents? I thank them for raising me properly every day, you fucking moron.

I'm always fascinated by which topics get the responses. This one seems silly to me, I have no need to respond so I've been observing instead... I don't care about a movie that I will not have to watch for ages and ages because I do not have any kids or grandkids in the right age range to want to see it. Yet, hundreds of responses about hiring some person to play an imaginary creature.

Imaginary creatures can have whatever skin color you want them to have. What I wonder is why folks more woke folks aren't up in arms for them giving the mermaid "white girl's" hair. Her natural hair wasn't good enough for a fictional creature, I guess...

"I have no need to respond," he says in a two-paragraph rant.

And yes...the original versions are just fine... some people are just overly sensitive...;)

Woke is a new weapon the rightys are using. It means whatever they need at any given time. If a company relaxes its racist standards, it is called woke. Being woke is a compliment.

Disney's Little Mermaid franchise is based on the 1837 fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen which was written before there was film, photography, television, or movies. In a book your mind is free to imagine the character anyway you want.

yup a lot of the older material had some illustrator, in latter versions of books, or some Director, when movies became a thing just give you your vision of how they saw the character. Pick another illustrator or Director at the time and you get a different look.

This is the most stupid amongst the numerous stupid argument that conservatards make. Fictional material HAS ALWAYS been updated to the times across history, including the bible (hello New Testament anyone?). They are always trying to give the changing face of the audience or society material that will appeal to that changing face or culture.

It is only white males, who have for well over 100 years been woke catered to almost exclusively who cry because now other groups are getting a fraction of the woke stuff they have been gobbling up for over a hundred years.

I think for many it’s used as a way of being racist without admitting they are racist.

I have to mostly agree, except I would point out that the vast majority of actors do not appear on screen with their “natural hair”.

Now there's a question that would never have dawned on me, and I saw the movie last week.

One thing is that her hair was dredded out. You don't see that many white people with dred locks, which is an Afro-Black Caribbean style.

More importantly, seventy percent of the women out there aren't sporting their actual natural hair, unless you naively believe all the blondes and strawberry auburns out there are natural.

Yes, it is. I'm pleased to consider myself woke and hope to live up to it.

It is that, plus given the fluid definition of "woke" at any given time, depending on the Poutrage du Jour, it can also include bigotry aimed at other groups -- non-Americans, women, LGBTQ ppl, atheists and other non-Xtians, etc. These idiots think that if we stop mentioning issues that members of these groups have in our society, it'll just magically go away.

It’s very useful to them to have a poorly defined boogyman?
