What is woke about the lil mermaid?

It’s very useful to them to have a poorly defined boogyman?

I haven't figured out whether they hate trans, or whether they hate everyone and everything that doesn't share that hatred. I think both. I wonder though, why I don't see any protests at any of the businesses that sponsor pride month? What's taking them so long to organize?

Of course! If you go around poutraging about "woke," you aren't exactly saying negative things about those of other races or religions, or bigoted things about "those people," or putting yourself out as a homophobic asshole. Normal, polite people, however, know exactly what they mean when they cry about "woke," so they're not really fooling us at all.

They're too weak; they're starving to death.

Maybe you ought to re-read the meme

Your daddy could be gay and your mommy a lesbian. All they need is a turkey baster to create you.

What your meme should say is that it takes a female and male human to create another human.

You’re only saying negative things about people who are supportive of minorities, not the minorities themselves. It’s a way of being once removed.

Mr. Tiny Penis, what you forget is the fact that somewhere there was a straight couple doing the dirty work to get this train on the track in the first place.

Actually, I don’t think that’s true any more based on modern science.

Remakes change things, otherwise why remake it? Why do you care so much? It’s fiction, it’s all made up.

How do you know why that particular actress was chosen?

Most remakes are regarded as inferior garbage when compared to the original.

Same is true with this garbage IMO.

As for "Why do I care so much?" I don't care that much. You posted this stupid fucking thread to try and stir up shit. Now you're offended because not everyone gave you the kind of answers you think they should.

Grow up.

Re: "How do I know why she was chosen?" Open up your fucking eyes and look around you. Casting black actors in roles of white characters in response to their accusations of racism is the current fad.

The BBC has even resorted to casting black actresses to play actual real historical white figures like Anne Boleyn, who we all know was so pale and white her skin was described almost see through.

In another TV adaptation of a novel written in 18th century Britain, "The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling" (aka "Tom Jones"), the role of a wealthy young heiress who was obviously envisioned as white, was recently cast with a black actress.

Funnier yet, her mother and father were white!!! LOL! How did that happen???

And let's not forget Will Smith who was cast in Robert Conrad's iconic role of James West in the movie version of the classic TV show "The Wild, Wild West".

Anyway, my whole point has been why not just create new roles to showcase black actors, rather than appropriate white culture?

Do you not think black actors are worth the trouble and effort? Do you not think they are talented enough to develop new characters without having some white predecessor to lead the way for them?

Why are you such a racist?

Soooo....by your racist logic, the blond Bimbettes in the original Beauty and the Beauty were changed to brunettes for the live-action movie in order to coddle and mollify brunettes? Brunette Lives Matter?

That was stupid even for you.

And that's saying something.

Disney's Little Mermaid franchise is based on the 1837 fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen which was written before there was film, photography, television, or movies. In a book your mind is free to imagine the character anyway you want.

Yes, and we all know that Denmark in the 1800's was just overflowing with black people who obviously would have inspired the characters he created.

Sure, I suppose you can IMAGINE fictional characters any way you want, and I have no problem with that.

The question I'm asking is WHY are we suddenly imagining theses characters as being ethnically different than they were created to be? Do you think it's merely because Hollywood is suddenly sensitive to such things, or are they spinelessly bowing to pressure for fear of being called racist?

In a vacuum, without all the false claims of victimhood by one group, it wouldn't be a question. But in the real world in which we live, viewed against the backdrop of the incessant, never ending squeak of the black wheel of society, it becomes obvious that what is going on is pure and simple appeasement. Pandering. White guilt manifesting itself everywhere you look.

I personally find that to be distasteful.

And BTW, are we free to imagine Anne Boleyn, one of King Henry's eight wives, as a dark skinned black woman of African descent?

Is it racist for people to expect at least a little bit of historical accuracy in their entertainment drama, or has TV just become such garbage that we're now expected to just swallow whatever they dish out and accept it?

I'm not willing to do that.

If one wants to jump to the conclusion that it's because I dislike blacks and call me a racist, go right ahead.

Changes nothing.

From the very beginnings of Hollywood and TV (visual mediums) up until TODAY.

The vast, VAST, majority of tv and movie WOKE pandering is still directed at males (particularly white males) and always has been.

And i do not think it wrong. If you are a movie maker in Bollywood catering to mostly Indian buyers then pandering to Indian audience by casting Indians, even to play foreign roles is fine.

There are For Profit businesses and for over 100 years the main buyer and decision maker was over whelming the white male, and thus why Hollywood woke pandered to them. That is fine. Now as more PoC and women are buying Hollywood is woke pandering a percent of their media to them... and that is fine.

It's fine if you're the kind of limp-wrist who doesn't mind being on his knees and obeying the orders of those issuing demands.

Again, for the umpteenth time, I have no problem whatsoever with casting black actors in TV and movie roles. But why not just create new characters for them and give them the chance to be the original face and voice of that character going forward.

Just recycling old, used roles that white actors have already defined is like clothing them in handout rags from The Salvation Army.

Obviously, you think black actors are not capable of handling such roles or creating new characters.

I guess you're just a racist.

Only the dumbest derps get offended and cry saying 'how dare you try to appeal to other groups who are not white men, so they also will buy', when it is just done with a percent of the material.

For Profit businesses of all kinds will look out and try to see who is making the buying decision and then cater the product to that person. that is how things work.

Only the gayest most effeminate self righteous shemales get all bitchy and hoity-toity over issues like this and start in with that tiresome, superior attitude shit.

I did not start this thread. I answered a question about why I thought casting a black actress to play the role of a fictional character whom everyone knows was created as white some two hundred years ago, is "woke".

I answered the question honestly, calmly and rationally.

And, as I expected, the same old crowd of enlightened beyond their common sense ding-a-lings, took umbrage and began throwing their usual hissy fits and hurling "the R word".

If this was about profit as you suggest, then they are going backwards. Blacks are only 12% of the population. My guess is that a significant percentage of them will never even see it. Your average young black residents in the hood, are not likely to be heading to the theater with their homies to see The Little Mermaid any time soon.

Maybe in your ridiculous fantasy world, but not in the real one.

You seem to care a lot...!

I'm here to have meaningful conversations about politics, current events and social issues.

That often requires the use of a lot of words.

Apparently you're just here to spout innuendo and make glib, flippant, snarky comments.

To each his own, I suppose.

As for "Why do I care so much?" I don't care that much. ...

You obviously care a lot.

You are the typical right wing snowflake.

It the owners of the media content want to remake their material with a slightly new spin, why should it rustle yo uso much? They have every right to and to try to sell it to a different audience.

As the audience changes they want to get them to buy as well. That is how business works and just repeating the exact same material the prior audience already saw and bought, is not a great way to attract new audiences.

Did you read comic books growing up? Long before people cried woke they were rotating new characters in for major characters to refresh the material.

that it bothers you magatards so much just shows how weak you are.
