What is woke about the lil mermaid?

Somebody told me that they already made a movie with a brown Tinkerbell, and the world survived.

I agree that 'enraged' isn't quite the right word

But enraged is close. Also a lot of glee and gloating over the demise of American capitalism.

As for the brown Tinkerbell, I couldn't find a US live action or cartoon but did find the "Never Fairies"...presumably to counter the expansion of the Barbie series into various skin-tones and cultures. https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Never_Fairies

I don't think anyone has ever explained to me why a fairy as to be fair-skinned.

Not really funny at all as what you are saying is generally bullshit.

No, you're a liar and everything you say is generally bullshit.

Use any of these threads in this forum for example and show me anyone bitching about PoC not getting enough roles? I can show you a ton of white male crybabies crying that 'all roles should go to white males... why are PoC and women now getting these roles'.

So reality does not agree with you.

Why should I limit my search to threads in this forum?

Is that where you get all your information about the world from?

How about you start paying attention to the world outside of message boards?

Here's an interesting take on the overly simplistic views about diversity people like you seem to harbor.

Be warned, the author is a black female so you might have to come up with something more creative than spewing racist about her...

And then there's director Jordan Peele who openly and proudly proclaims he will never cast white actors in his films. A promise for which he is applauded vociferously.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/n...self-casting-a-white-dude-as-lead-us-1197021/

Peele plans on wielding his (power) judiciously. One way is to keep putting black faces on the screen in leading roles. “The way I look at it,” he explained, “I get to cast black people in my movies. I feel fortunate to be in this position where I can say to Universal, ‘I want to make a $20 million horror movie with a black family.’ And they say yes.”

It’s a formula he’s not interested in messing with.

“I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes,” he said, nodding over to his moderator pal Roberts. “But I’ve seen that movie.”

So then it's fine when black directors openly discriminate against white actors, but... well we know the rest.

Well, I think you're still missing or ignoring the point.

I'll repeat... It's not that a given role is BEING played by a black actor...

It's WHY a given role is being played by a black actor.

Appeasement.

Mollification.

Pandering.

Capitulation.

Surrender.

Pacification.

Placation.

Bowing to demands.

Doing something that is not a first choice or natural fit just to make a small but loud minority happy.

That ^^^^ is MY issue with it.

Black actors getting lead acting roles is fine with me in and of itself.

I've got to see the original animated film.

I've always wondered how mermaid-human relationships work.

Especially, the actual physical enjoinment part.

Does the movie show how it's done?

Toxic can't say. She's not seen the new version, only the old one. It's a sign of advancing age -- you only like the stuff from when you were younger and hate everything new.

And in her usual passive/aggressive style, she neither admits nor denies. But there is no chance she went to a theater and paid to see it. Zero. So this is just what she's read.

There was a show called Corner Gas (hilarious Canadian comedy). The old crabby dad took home a VCR and a copy of jaws, but he couldn't figure out how to hook it up. So instead of asking for help, he pretended he'd seen the movie. So they started to ask him questions like 'how about the scene where the shark grows legs and has a swordfight with the hero on the beach. Or the part where the shark went into outer space. Somehow, this made me think of the same thing. She has no idea what the ending is, she just read it was bad, and repeated. A parrot. That's all any of them are.

Why was Lin-Manuel Miranda given the role of Hamilton? Because he wrote it? LOL

It's all about the money.

This isn't about race...Is there a thread somewhere around here about Cinderella with Brandy and Whitney?
Ask yourself why...;)

This isn't about race... ( that rap was just terrible...period...lol)
The entire thread is about race.
Agreed. Not only does TOP hate black women, especially young ones, but she's not very bright. She's also one of Trump's favorite kind of people: the poorly educated.

Why is anyone upset about Lin-Manuel Miranda writing a successful play? Or Halle Bailey starring as Ariel?

I wasn't in the corporate meeting at Disney when decisions were made about the movie. And I don't put much stock in mind-reading.

America is a lot browner than it was 50 years ago, and I expect all facets of government, industry, and entertainment to take on a browner tone simply as a reflection of the realities of our country this deep into the 21st century.

God forbid a black theatrical actor should ever want to try out for a role in a Shakespeare play. Is it even allowed?!

Already been done. Long time ago, AAMOF...

And more recently...

And there's another point of view to consider...

This is what you don't understand. Non-white people have suffered discrimination in this country since the first white person showed up here. It still happens. When non-white people take steps to restore their humanity and their value, you white people are not allowed to bitch about it. You're going to do it anyway, but we don't care. The fake grievances and feigned pearl clutching that you old, white, straight people, especially men, subject us to every day is the most pathetic display of bitchy Karen-ness that I can imagine.

That's not true...

Honestly, I hope it's a bust for Disney and they lose a substantial amount of money on it.

Not because I hate or dislike Disney. I am on their side in the war with Ron DeShameless. I just think they and the other studios and producers, need to learn a hard lesson about ever pulling this woke pandering appeasement crap again in the future.

The hard message here needs to be an unequivocal "Go woke, go broke".

And if you want to jump to your usual knee-jerk position by calling me a racist because you can't (or won't) grasp the larger principle like the rest of the proggies here, be my guest.

Not offended.

Your racism is so ingrained that you did not even CONSIDER that the black actress may have been the best person for the role. You literally dismiss the idea. You should think about that.
