If California is so great with such a vibrant economy why does it depend upon the tax revenues from THE PEOPLE/FEDS to simply remain solvent? Unlike the peoples of Red States...the population/peoples of California are dependent upon handouts to exist....as demonstrated by the average Budget deficit ranging from 20-28 billion dollars a year. The evidence against California remaining solvent lies in the documented fact of the US Census and the mass exodus of both people and businesses over the past decade alone. California might make it as an independent state if they allowed the Mexicans to take over the government as they seem quite adapt at managing poverty by stealing from other nations. Has anyone taken a vacation to San Francisco lately? What....are the garbage collectors on strike?

You choose to ignore how would we pay our S.S. and Medicare, our unfunded liabilities and to create an army to defend ourselves. We'd be in a lot more trouble than the U.S.

CA contributes more than it takes from the Treasury.

Which means CA pays for red state SS, Defense, Medicare.

The rest of the US would have a huge problem if CA left; they wouldn't be able to afford all the goodies they suck up like a bunch of welfare leeches.

How about red states learn some fiscal responsibility and stop relying on welfare, paid for by blue states, to paper over your shitty tax cut-induced deficits?

CA has a budget surplus. On top of that, CA only gets back about $0.70 for every $1 it contributes to the Treasury.

So from a State and Federal budget perspective, CA is in the black with room to spare.

If CA didn't have to contribute $0.25 more than it gets back, CA could easily afford its own defense and entitlement programs.

It's red states like Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, Kansas, West Virginia, South Carolina, Indiana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wisconsin, Missouri, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming, and Maine that wouldn't be able to sustain without the tax dollars CA contributes for that red state welfare.

So you and Rana think the U.S. government would just give the billions owed to California residents in S.S. and Medicare if we seceede? And you and Rana think our current $9 billion surplus will cover the trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities we have?

Admittedly it's seductive to want to live in your world. The IRS or credit card company or any business says you owe money and you just deny you do. In the real world there are negative repercussions for not paying but not in your world. It's all make believe.
