An ideology is a set of ideals and principles based on your values. The rise of Trump is proof positive that Republican voters never had an ideology -- because they have no values, other than what they are told to have. Politicians realized this many years ago, which is why people like you are easy pickings. It's also why people like Hillary had an extremely hard time gaining traction -- because those with liberal principles weren't enthusiastic to vote for her. Out of simple human decency, she didn't play to the cheap seats (Trump voters). However, she was never a liberal, and in fact had many right-of-center political leanings. Being a centrist in the last election was a political death sentence.

No. He's using Republicans, and Republicans are using him. It's a forced marriage. Trump is neither liberal nor conservative. He's a populist who takes 'a bit of this, and a bit of that' depending on the time and circumstances. He traditionally supported Hillary Clinton and the Democrats, and even admitted that the economy does better under Democrats.
