What's an optimal level of government spending?

The US government is responsible for the general welfare of its citizens. So basically everything Congress does is supported by the constitution. AHZ is a moron.

wow. so no need for a supreme court then.

everythings constitutional because you said so. how convenient.

I find that "pretty good money" is subjective. What you consider "pretty good money" and what I consider "pretty good money" are very different.

Where is subjective as well. Ask a crane operator in the large cities what he makes. Walt, I question whether you are capable of making "pretty good money."

The alt right wants us to surrender any individual rights not explicitly, and fully written into the Constitution to the state. This is a power grab on the level of Stalin's.

Where is subjective as well.

Where is less subjective. We draw objective borders between places. We enforce those borders with laws. Where is arbitrary, but not usually subjective.

Walt, I question whether you are capable of making "pretty good money."

I am in the process of quitting a job that I considered to pay me "pretty good money", and there is no chance I would have to get a job as a security guard at a campground just to make gas money.

eminent domain requires no government spending - only government power over land rights (at market value paid by those using the roads)

any more sophomorics my child could reply to here poor poor tardo?

ROFLMAO. And how do you have a government that can exercise eminent domain if you have no money to pay for that government? How do you enforce the decision of eminent domain if the land owner refused to sell if you have no police or courts? It seems you don't understand that the only way a government can exist is if it is paid for in some way and that way is taxation. Unless you are proposing that the government act as a criminal enterprise and just steal what it needs.

so we are back to your "how can people that need a gym fund a gym retardism"

People that need a gym don't have to use eminent domain to find the space to build a gym. If one land owner won't sell they can find another. In the case of a road if one land owner won't sell, you can't simply not build that part of the road and still have a functioning road.

yes - but eminent domain costs no money - it only needs power to force land sales. we already covered this ground

so you are just spinning your wheels because you are too insecure to admit you were wrong. poor, poor Richard the Poor.

Eminent Domain requires a government to enforce taking the land. When the landowner won't sell and refuses to leave how are you enforcing the eminent domain?

The difference is cost of living. Where you live makes that difference. If you don't know that, you ain't too bright.

I work because I'm just not lazy. What will you do after retirement? Sit around and get fat?
Besides, I get along with people. I like to be sociable. I like seeing women in bikinis.
I like driving around in a golf cart (although it doesn't have near enough horsepower).

That is not very subjective. And that is less true in many ways than you would think.

Yes, housing in Kentucky is much less than in New York City, and so are salaries, but an iPhone costs the same in both places. In fact, you can find some nice discounts in NYC you simply cannot in Kentucky. If you want something that is globally priced, you will do better living in a high income, high cost area.

What will you do after retirement?

I have mentioned before, I will fully never retire. I may work less, but I fear suddenly losing my retirement funds, so am going to always do some work just to keep my toe in the water. I will not have to worry about actually making money, and could do things like open source, or work on entrepreneurial ventures.

Actually, that is what I am hopefully doing right now. I don't think of this as partial retirement, but I am doing a test run of not working for the finance industry anymore. They can call me back if needed, but we are hoping I am not needed.

Sit around and get fat?

If you want to make money in this world, you get jobs that use your mind. The problem is working at such jobs can make you fat. So the issue is the opposite of what you claim it is.

I like driving around in a golf cart

Not going to get you to lose weight.

"You ain't to bright"! What's wrong with this sentence?

Of course it is subjective I worked for a food service company. We delivered to Army bases. We delivered to restaurants in D.C. We delivered to rural nursing homes. We delivered to Boston, etc. So I know there is a significant difference in the cost of living between the big cities and the rural (where I live) areas. And who gives a shit about the iPhone. I can buy a house and a few acres of land and live on the rest with what you pay in rent a month to live in that cubical on the 32nd. floor.

So you're doing the same damn thing I am! Retire and work just enough to keep busy if we feel like it.

Walt, I was a machinist. I retired a machine shop manager. It's what I did (except for the 2 years at the Food Service Co.). Machinists use their mind. If you don't, you get hurt...or fired.

Yeah, I know. And I could drop a few pounds...
