What’s the explanation for this?

A stunningly low 8% of Americans have a firm grasp on Covid statistics. That’s simply amazing, considering that the country has been awash in ‘Covid coverage’ for going on two years. There’s literally no escape from hearing about it.

The obvious culprit is the media but the public health gurus are also at fault because part of why they go to work everyday is to educate the public on health matters and those polls numbers demonstrate that they have failed, miserably, in that role.

It’s also been politicized, to no end, by the left, especially, under Trump because Covid was going to be the rope that Democrats were finally going to hang the Bad Orange Man with. And it was predetermined.

Lastly, an intellectually lazy and incurious electorate are responsible for those numbers. Within seconds, one can find the actual probability of landing in the hospital with the bug and apparently so few people do it. It’s nowhere near 50% probability. That figure isn’t even in the ballpark. It’s out behind the parking lot to the ballpark. They fully deserve the Lemming moniker.

At some point in the future sociology professors will require their students to write papers on this phenomenon.

The "obvious culprit" is not the media if you mean the mainstream media. The daily newspapers and network news shows report the Covid statistics in their states and cities on an almost daily basis. The culprits, so to speak, are probably social media and typical American ignorance and lack of curiosity about almost everything.

The media is largest purveyor of panic porn.

If someone would drill down on it, I’ll wager that they’d find that vax hesitancy correlates well with a firm grasp of the statistics.

Duh. It was about getting rid of trump. Now it's about Darwinism.

Check, and check.

Any daily newspaper will have the data, Omar. The problem is a public that doesn't read the mainstream press and watches talking heads instead.

Hello Darth,

Darth, I hope you are well. I see that you have not posted since 9-29-21. Hopefully, you're just on vacation and will return when that is concluded.

I've always admired you for hanging in there and 'taking it' after posting some of the most absurd statements ever seen about the pandemic.

The 'Only 61 deaths' thread, of course, being epic.

I think you've gotten this one completely wrong as well.

It is true that the American public is very poorly informed about the actual statistics. The biggest reason for that is the Trump party actually chooses to not know. It is no coincidence that Democrats are very motivated to fight the pandemic, but the Trump party appears to want to make the pandemic last because it hurts the approval polling of the president.

The pandemic is like the economy.

The in-power president gets the blame if it's not going well.

And there is direct linkage there as well between the pandemic and the economy.

The pandemic affects the economy. Republicans want to hurt the economy when a Democrat is in the WH.

Republicans are encouraging mask and vaccine resistance. It comes from the top because they know the ongoing pandemic hurts President Biden.

Democrats are doing a far better job of fighting the pandemic. Blue states are in much better shape than red states.
