I think we should repeal the most recent tax cut on the rich, that should raise about $40 billion per year based on the estimates of the same plan under Kerry.
Then with that money we will be able to eliminate the $400-$800 billion deficit (depending on if we want to use accounting tricks that the private sector would never be allowed to do) and go on the wildest spending ever and this time it won't just be stuff like across the board spending increases. Nope, we will launch new programs like universal healthcare at $1.2 trillion, free collegecare (of course we should force people to volunteer though as some form of payback) and hell why not, how about 92000 more soldiers and another big boost for the military.

Also the rich will stay and take it, they don't move to the Caribean or use tax havens or reduce their economic activity as they are happy to pay more. And nor do jobs leave for climates that are friendlier to business.

I put cut spending, everywhere except missile defence and the best place to start is repealing the pill bill, instead put in Clinton's old plan of limiting length of patents so generic drugs can come on the market sooner.
Selling off government land would be the least painful place to start but since it is not to question reducing the government's personal fiefdom, under the Dems we'll have to look and see where they thought they could reduce spending. Lemme search the net...

We will just cut missile defence, well with a nuclear North Korea whose leader just died with complete uncertainty about who will succede him and a country that has fired test missile deep into the Pacific with range that can now hit the US, well I just can't think of anything less critical we can cut.

Well, I would say we need to cut spending, but really, we just need to stop the growth of government until taxes can catch up to how large it is now.

But, legalizing Marijuana would reduce the jail budgets, and taxing it would generate more revenue. That would inch us closer. I'd also cut military spending, and end the war.

I would venture to say, a 5% increase of the lower 50% of wage earners, would generate FAR more than you estimate, since they are paying NOTHING now, and mostly getting a big fat "rebate" check.
