When Did Feminism Become So Embarrassing?

Marissa Mayer is too hot to be a feminist.

All I'm saying is there's a reason that barbie doll isn't a feminist. Do you know of any loud-mouthed feminists who are at the helm of Fortune 500 companies?

How do you know Barbie isn't a feminist? Some of her outfits scream feminism. Just because she likes nice things, doesnt mean she isn't a feminist!

I imagine a great many women who are the head of companies promote women's rights. They would be foolish not to do so!

I was referring to Mayer as a barbie doll...

She is #20, Fortune 500 females.

She doesn't consider herself a feminist because of the eat negativity associated with the word, but she sure enjoys the benefits!
I wonder how she feels about all the peope that think pregnancy will "change" her? I wonder how she feels about all the people who think she will fail to turn Yahoo around.

My point (one that I articulated quite poorly, so let's start fresh) is that women rarely get ahead by being outspoken feminists. Like it or not, a million or so years of human evolution has ingrained differences into the sexes. Mayer recognizes this, and she was able to climb to the top by embracing and celebrating these differences. The problem is that the word 'feminist' has been hijacked by the likes of Gloria Steinem and Molly Yard. Do you think identifying with that brand of feminism is beneficial to a woman's career prospects?
