When did Trump-Russia probe begin? Investigators focus on mystery months

In a nationwide election, "peripheral" people don't sit down at meetings with the upper level campaign staff nor are pointed out directly by the candidate

Because there already existed an interest in individuals with Russian ties who happened to also have connections to the Trump campaign. It wasn't an investigation into the Trump campaign but interest in suspicious behavior, in a simple sense, old fashion police work

That was the biggest pile of stupid I have seen in a while. A campaign can sit down with anyone they wish to. It isn't illegal. The notion that SC investigation should be based on "suspicious" behavior is ludicrous and moronic.

But then, no one does moron as well as you do.

You rightys are nuts. The FBI found out that Russia was getting involved in our elections. They were warned by several countries that they picked it up. The FBI job was then to find out all they could about it. They used a informant who went after the information and found it. They were not on the Holy Trump campaign. They were trying to find out about Russian interference. The only connection with Trump was because many people in his campaign were working with Russians .

The FBI uses informants like local police do. This is no crime against his holiness, Daffy Trump. Just a normal investigation.

So Obama was lying here, again?

The question is, why did some of Trump's associates become objects of interest to the IC? The RW media wants us to believe that at some point in the first half of 2016 Brennan and Comey became so alarmed at the prospect of Trump winning that they used "spies" in an attempt to entrap members of his campaign. The motive was political - to stop Trump.

But does that make sense? The obvious way to harm Trump would have been to leak the fact that his campaign team was under investigation for possible collusion with Russian agents. For reasons which the RW spin-meisters cannot explain, Brennan and Comey never did this. Instead they kept their investigations secret until after the election. Draw your own conclusions.

A similar question is WHY did they become objects of interest?

The best the Swamp apologists can come up with ‘they were talking to Russians’.

if we ever get to see the EC...
Although at this point it's obvious (principles committee meeting/informant(s)) there was an investigation already happening before the formal date.
Plus we have Brennan' war room up and running before July 2016

Deep State creeps as slick as frog slime

They did leak it to the media.

This week, the Justice Department's National Security Division charged an FBI agent based in Minneapolis with leaking classified information to the media in a move similar to other recent alleged leaks, including by former FBI Director James Comey.

Terry James Albury, who worked in counterterrorism, was charged with "one count of 'knowingly and willfully' transmitting documents and information relating to national defense to a reporter for a national news organization," Minnesota Public Radio reported. Albury faces another criminal charge for refusing to hand over documents to the government.

Albury is the second person to be charged with leaking classified material to The Intercept; an intelligence contractor was charged in June 2017 "with leaking a classified report about Russia's interference in the 2016 election."

While a search warrant that was filed in federal court did not identify the news outlet that Albury allegedly leaked to, a review by MPR "found the documents described in the search warrant that Albury leaked exactly match the trove of FBI documents posted by The Intercept."

"The FBI believes that the classified and/or controlled nature of the documents indicates the News Outlet obtained these documents from someone with direct access to them," the warrant stated. "Furthermore, reviews of the FBI internal records indicate ALBURY has electronically accessed over two-thirds of the approximately 27 documents via trusted access granted to him on FBI information systems."

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is pressing the Justice Department for answers on whether James Comey violated bureau rules, saying it appears the former FBI director leaked “at least one” classified memo to a professor friend shortly after his firing.

Comey admitted during congressional testimony last summer that he leaked the memos to his friend, Columbia University Professor Daniel Richman, which documented discussions that he had with the president.

"Of the seven memos, four are marked classified at the 'SECRET' or 'CONFIDENTIAL' levels," Grassley wrote, adding that "only three did not contain classified information.”
