Which came first chickenshit attitude or Republican voting

I read the WHOLE article. Risk taking in gambling does not seem to be affected (3rd paragraph). But gambling is about risk taking and the reaction to risks could influence behavior in other situations. The research seems to show that conservative attitudes inspire one to be fearful and activate the parts of the brain that deal with fear. In other words, you are teaching yourself to be a chickenshit.

Then you don't understand how science works. But we get it. You liberals rock on all levels and everyone else is an unevolved troglodyte. If only all could be as great and wonderful as you liberals.

"what a wonderful world it would be"

Except for places run by liberals like California, Philadelphia and Detroit.

Unable to elaborate again?

The study indicates that the parts of the brain that deal with fear are more active in Republicans. The chief researcher seemed to indicate that it was due to training.

How does any of this show I don't understand how science works?

No, not everyone else is an unevolved troglodyte. Just those who identify as Republicans and I would guess it is more pronounced in social conservatives as I stated before.

I am a "liberal" according to neo-Nazis like you. Not all Republicans would label me as such and most Democrats would not accept me as a liberal on anything but social issues. How these researchers would class me I don't know or care.

Ok, chickenshit. It seems I understood the article. Its suggestion that conservatives are frightened by change is obvious in several of the posts this morning.

It is not as if we have not known this for ages. There just happens to be some science to back it up now.

It was an interesting article but the conclusion that you understood it is bullshit in the extreme....that explains some the moronic posts from you in
some of the other threads where you obviously couldn't understand simple definitions and meanings...
Anyway, the article was interesting.

I'll elaborate....

The study matched publicly available party registration records with the names of 82 American participants whose risk-taking behavior during a gambling experiment was monitored by brain scans. The researchers found that liberals and conservatives don’t differ in the risks they do or don’t take, but their brain activity does vary while they’re making decisions.

The idea that the brains of Democrats and Republicans may be hard-wired to their beliefs is not new. Previous research has shown that during MRI scans, areas linked to broad social connectedness, which involves friends and the world at large, light up in Democrats’ brains. Republicans, on the other hand, show more neural activity in parts of the brain associated with tight social connectedness, which focuses on family and country.
------
What conclusions can we entertain ?...
1-The researchers found that liberals and conservatives don’t differ in the risks they do or don’t take....thats pretty self-exclamatory...

2-broad social connectedness, which involves friends and the world at large...Liberals ....
friends ?, the ME generation? Entitled ?
the world at large ? interference in the lives of others ?...the 'we know whats good for you mentality ?

3-tight social connectedness, which focuses on family and country....................Conservatives...family oriented and patriotic or even nationalistic to some degree ?

------
Other scans have shown that brain regions associated with risk and uncertainty, such as the fear-processing amygdala, differ in structure in liberals and conservatives. And different architecture means different behavior. Liberals tend to seek out novelty and uncertainty, while conservatives exhibit strong changes in attitude to threatening situations. The former are more willing to accept risk, while the latter tends to have more intense physical reactions to threatening stimuli.
===
3-Liberals tend to seek out novelty and uncertainty, are more willing to accept risk ? could mean they shoot before they aim, reactionary, don't consider the consequences of actions..?

4-Conservatives exhibit strong changes in attitude to threatening situations....tend to have more intense physical reactions to threatening stimuli ?
Could mean just the opposite...cautious, controlled, moderate, careful and does consider the consequences before acting.

Keeping in mind number 1 above....

Or you could be teaching yourself self-control, personal responsibility, actually thinking before acting, as opposed to reacting without thinking and taking foolish, UN-necessary risks....

You lack reading comprehension, as we pointed out before.

Hey stupid, point one and the second three conflict. It's self-exclamatory that you are pretty confused.

A new study predicts political behavior with 83% accuracy. It also proves the fact that conservatives are cowards. It is unclear whether being a coward makes you more likely to be Republican or if thinking like a Republican turns you into a coward.

Maybe the Republicans here can help. Were you always cowards or did you become chickenshit pansies as your political beliefs developed? Should I make a poll?

Building on this, the new research shows that Democrats exhibited significantly greater activity in the left insula, a region associated with social and self-awareness, during the task. Republicans, however, showed significantly greater activity in the right amygdala, a region involved in our fight-or flight response system.
Democrats are shepherds of moral decay and human suffering. Republicans just want to be successful and happy with their family and friends.

I didn't write the study, or didn't you know that ?...

Put into context....

The study matched publicly available party registration records with the names of 82 American participants whose risk-taking behavior during a gambling experiment was monitored by brain scans. The researchers found that liberals and conservatives don’t differ in the risks they do or don’t take.

Considering the context of study was a gambling experiment and brain activity during the game, both must be taking the same relative risks and the brain
activity was supposed to reveal which portions of the brain showed activity....ie. were the decisions frivolous or considered to put it into simpler terms.

Are you sure you read the article ?

Dr. Darren Schreiber, a researcher in neuropolitics at the University of Exeter, has been working in collaboration with colleagues at the University of California, San Diego on research that explores the differences in the way the brain functions in American liberals and conservatives. The findings are published in the journal PLOS ONE on 13 February.
In a prior experiment, participants had their brain activity measured as they played a simple gambling game. Dr. Schreiber and his UC San Diego collaborators were able to look up the political party registration of the participants in public records. Using this new analysis of 82 people who performed the gambling task, the academics showed that Republicans and Democrats do not differ in the risks they take. However, there were striking differences in the participants' brain activity during the risk-taking task.
Democrats showed significantly greater activity in the left insula, a region associated with social and self-awareness. Meanwhile Republicans showed significantly greater activity in the right amygdala, a region involved in the body's fight-or-flight system. These results suggest that liberals and conservatives engage different cognitive processes when they think about risk.

body's fight-or-flight system implies to me, that part of the brain associated with evaluating and weighing risk/reward in 'chancy' situations....or 'threatening' situations,
if you prefer....which in turn implies the use of common sense evaluation in decision making....as opposed to being a reactionary.

I'm not sure what the hell the "social and self-awareness" part of the brain has to do with decision making in risky situations or what they think it proves or implies.
Are liberals making the decisions based on what others will think(social) or what effect it will have on him or her (Self) ?

Do you think the 'study' was biased to one side or the other considering the study comes from one of the most liberal universities, in one of the most liberal states in the country ?

Leftists like Sillystring have been playing this game for years. Posting study after study showing leftists to be "smarter". It is the leftist way of dehumanizing their political enemies so they don't have to engage them in real debate. If your opponent is stupid, they aren't worth the time so goes the reasoning of a left winger like the OP.

No, you did not write it. You just misread the article and the results of the study.

ONCE AGAIN, the study implies that Republicans activate their right amygdala, a part of the brain used in processing fear and in fight or flight situations, when considering risks. This seems to indicate they use this part of the brain often. In other words you live in fear.
Other studies indicate that it does have an effect on behavior but did not seem to have any clear effect in risks taken while gambling.

If you want to call me liberal, that's reasonable. Calling me a leftist just proves what a knee jerk idiot you are.

The study had nothing to with being stupid. You guys do seem to make a virtue of stupidity, though, which is why Dubya and Palin were popular.

The scans were taken during the gambling, fool....

What does it mean...???

fight-or flight response is mans natural response to defend yourself....either fight to overcome danger or flee to avoid the danger...only idiots ignore the danger.

Liberals tend to seek out novelty and uncertainty, to threatening situations.

In plain English, the act before they think.....they are more willing to accept risk rather than consider the consequences of their actions, they act without having a rational idea of a satisfactory or certain outcome......liberals are wreck-less and careless.....
A good example would be drug use and experimentation.....almost always with an unfortunate outcome sooner or later.

while conservatives exhibit strong changes in attitude to threatening situations...tend to have more intense physical reactions to threatening stimuli....
(strong changes in attitude or intense physical reactions, does not equal fear, it implies considered thought to outcome before action)

in plain English, Conservatives weigh risk and reward, they consider expected, planned outcomes rather than uncertain ones....they don't seek uncertainty, they use reasoning thought to lessen uncertainty......they are not wreck-less or careless......

An example was in a thread no long ago about a man that witnessed some pit bulls attack a child....got his gun...shot the dogs and saved the kid.
One of your liberal morons said he would have attacked the pit bulls with a stick, (he imagined was laying around)...rather than get his gun, or some suitable weapon.
This shows a foolish, impulsive response that would have had the dogs injuring 2 people instead of getting killed themselves....

Here is a liberal bear trainer that gets attacked by a bear......after the attack starts, his brain starts to function and he turns into a conservative, saving his life.

It did not have any affect on risk taking during gambling. What part of that statement makes you think I did not understand that the scans took place during gambling?

It's pointless trying to discuss anything with you, you senile fool.

The study does not indicate what you claim. You are just making shit up. The researcher indicated what it demonstrated and it's been explained to you multiple times now.

conservatives fear forward social changes and seek to spread fear of such changes among citizens/voters

bummer

What an amazing article, although I'm a bit sceptical since my political leanings have evolved 180° over the years.

I have a follow up appt with the neurologist who did my brain scan last week. I'll ask him about this!
Exactly. Your thinking evolved.
