The idea that the brains of Democrats and Republicans may be hard-wired to their beliefs is not new. Previous research has shown that during MRI scans, areas linked to broad social connectedness, which involves friends and the world at large, light up in Democrats’ brains. Republicans, on the other hand, show more neural activity in parts of the brain associated with tight social connectedness, which focuses on family and country.

Considering the context of study was a gambling experiment and brain activity during the game, both must be taking the same relative risks and the brain
activity was supposed to reveal which portions of the brain showed activity....ie. were the decisions frivolous or considered to put it into simpler terms.

body's fight-or-flight system implies to me, that part of the brain associated with evaluating and weighing risk/reward in 'chancy' situations....or 'threatening' situations,
if you prefer....which in turn implies the use of common sense evaluation in decision making....as opposed to being a reactionary.
I'm not sure what the hell the "social and self-awareness" part of the brain has to do with decision making in risky situations or what they think it proves or implies.

ONCE AGAIN, the study implies that Republicans activate their right amygdala, a part of the brain used in processing fear and in fight or flight situations, when considering risks. This seems to indicate they use this part of the brain often. In other words you live in fear.
Other studies indicate that it does have an effect on behavior but did not seem to have any clear effect in risks taken while gambling.
