White House Is Kissing a $15 Minimum Wage Goodbye

Your problem is thinking that Dems and GOP are real things. There is establishment...that is all.

There is definitely a divide between how Democrats and Republicans govern. They come together on many issues, but that is often for the best. You make Americans coming together on something we can agree on sound bad when you say "establishment." It is often very good.

The fact is that Democrats have increased minimum wage, and will almost certainly figure out a way to increase minimum wage again. Meanwhile, Republicans have fought minimum wage increases tooth and nail, and will continue to.

Show me.

I'm not saying some jobs shouldn't pay more.
That said, some of the problem lies with young
people that think they're above starting wages.
They think they should start out on the top rung
of the ladder. They are to lazy to take low paying
while living with their parents and work their way up.

I'll go one step further on this. There are a lot of older people who think they're entitled to great benefits because they work a pissant job.

When it comes to this issue(minimum wage): every Democrat has increased minimum wage since FDR first created it. Every Republican has fought against increasing minimum wage since Ford was willing to increase it. Bush Senior was forced to increase it against his will. There is a very serious divide on this issue.

On other issues: I keep coming back to trump having wanted to be a Democrat. he tried to run for president as a Democrat, and the Democrats would have no part of it. he ended up as a Republican, because Republicans supported him.

I notice you're talking federal.

Maybe, but I wouldn't think many. I do believe loyalty should have advantages. I was fortunate to have worked at a few places where it was appreciated.

One thing I have noticed about young people lately, is they are almost all willing to take bottom jobs. It has become the norm to work poorly paying jobs.

The disagreement here is what the bottom rung should pay, not whether people should start at the bottom rung.

I've always had a side hustle. I've been flipping cars since I was 14. I can't tell you how many factory workers over the years thought I was an idiot for working so hard.

Who's the idiot now?

This is the old game old people will always pull on you. They demand "loyalty"(you do not get a raise to market value), but will lay you off at the drop of a hat. I no longer fall for it.

If someone is loyal to me, I am loyal to them. I am willing to do some work at below market rate, or even free, for someone I know will return the favor. No more free work to people who have no loyalty to me.

No, they aren't Walt. We used to walk around with snow shovels when we were kids to earn a few bucks when it snowed here. I didn't see one kid walk around looking to shovel sidewalks when I went in town these last few years of snowstorms. A friend and I picked strawberries one (for beer money) summer when I was laid off. Kids won't do that stuff anymore.

I was convinced by older generations that the secret was to show loyalty to an employer, and they would take care of you. That may have been true for their generation, but it certainly is not true today. If you do not have side hustles, or are willing to switch jobs for greater pay, you are going to get screwed. Now I am all about the side hustle.

When I was younger, I was constantly being told there was a raise cap in effect, and there was nothing I could do about it. That I should show "loyalty" by not taking better paying jobs. At one job, the owner paid bonuses to his friends who did no work, and then bounced my paycheck twice. He went on to claim I was "disloyal" for refusing to continue working without pay.

When I do freelance work, I am constantly getting demands I work for free, with no equity offered, just to show my "loyalty." These are people I just met. My friend actually had a demand that she pay an "employer" to work for them. They had no history in software, while she had been a programmer for 15 years, but they said they needed her to pay them for the experience they would give her.

Anyone who demands "loyalty" without showing me any "loyalty" deserves nothing from me.

I started running a drill press in my first full time job for $3.25 an hour just out of high school. I worked my way up by watching and learning from older machinists to run a machine shop.
Having determination and a focused interest pays off.
My "side hustles" (bowling, softball. pool and alcohol consumption) cost me more than I made back in those days, but I still have the trophies in a box somewhere :)

Kids around here shovel snow, and mow lawns.

Many people are willing to do side hustles, even ones that are more affluent than you would think. I know one woman that walks dogs, even though she is a civil engineer (fully licensed PE). She figures that she should go for a walk for the exercise, likes dogs, and might as well make some extra money. These days it is very easy, because of the gig economy.

If they cost you money you were doing it wrong.

Buy low sell high isn't just for the stock market...anyone can do it.

You do not even seem to understand what a side hustle is.

Exactly. I have a neighbor who does nothing but go to garage and estate sales and buy cheap shit, really cheap shit, dirt cheap. Then she sells it on the Internet and she makes enough to live in my neighborhood. It's hard work but she makes it work.
