White House photo sparks protest

WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House photographer was allowed to take and widely distribute a photo from the ceremony Tuesday for the return of the remains of 30 American troops killed in a weekend helicopter crash in Afghanistan despite the Pentagon's claim that any public depiction of the scene would violate the wishes of bereaved families.

News media coverage of the ceremony had been banned by the Pentagon over the objections of several news organizations.

Pentagon officials had said that because 19 of 30 of the American families of the dead had objected to media coverage of the remains coming off a plane at Dover Air Force Base, no images could be taken. In addition, the Pentagon rejected media requests to take photos that showed officials at the ceremony but did not depict caskets.

Of course it would not be acceptable. Show me the evidence of your president saying 'F*** you' to the parents or proof of him spitting on coffins. Otherwise you are simply making matters worse. I don't expect you to understand that, but may be.... one day?
 
Sparks protest among whom? I can see that the media are pissed, but I don't see anything about pissing off the families of the deceased. And "spits on the dead" is just a tad much, innit?

Angers the families, maybe, I'm not gonna argue about their vote in this, (since newspapers don't tend to care if the people in car crashes or disasters get their photo taken) but spitting on the dead? Make your point but when you push things like that it undermines the entire arguement, should Obama have prevented it? Probably since the families wishes do matter. Did he even know about it beforehand? Is he responsible for every single bad action the government takes? (if so he should also get credit for every life saved by cops or firefighters)

Wrong was done yes, but not as much as you'd like us to believe
 
He should resign in disgrace over this blatant opportunism, attempting to capitalize politically on the deaths of our fallen hero's.
 
Two points need to be made.

First of all, it was common for the fallen to be photographed on their return home. During the Bush administration this stopped. You can claim it was out of respect for the families, but that is bullshit. It was an act to cut down on the bad news coming out of the war.

Second of all, showing the fallen warriors getting their due respect is honorable. You want to call it a photo-op, that is up to you. The fact that the return of these brave men who paid the ultimate price has been turned into a partisan circus is disgusting.
 
Having the picture taken and published after the ban; Isn't any different from Obamao making a movie of Bin Ladens execution after the admin. decided not to show pictures of his death so they wouldn't inflame the flaming jihadist muslim terrorists. WTF?
