If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words is a video worth?
Reading them cannot be compared with seeing them.
It is indeed a national media blackout.

Geebs.. Yeah, they read the names then too. And that is no blackout. The count was constantly going, etc. There was no blackout, it is silly to pretend it was.

Again. I disagree with avoiding the pictures of coffins, but there was no "blackout". If there was you wouldn't have their names read every single evening on the news. That would be a blackout.

My bet is your "trouble with English" in this instance is in the word "blackout" which would mean nothing at all is getting out, unlike when every name of every fallen soldier being read on the news.

The News was read like almost every other news story, images of the families who wanted to be on TV... etc. No media blackout, it is completely disingenuous to continue that argument. You wanted coffins, you were denied, but that is no blackout. That's like saying that not talking about or showing streakers during a football game means that there is a "blackout" on the game. LOL. Again, pretending that information read on the air is somehow "blacked out" is just hack, plain and simple hack. It is like an idiot who pretends a human fetus isn't human life. It's just stupid and makes the person arguing look incapable of rational thought. There are better arguments than denying reality with strong insistence, you should attempt them some time.

The reality is we knew when and where our soldiers died, who they were, and we knew because they read it on the air every single night. We saw their families on TV, when those families allowed it. The only thing you didn't get regularly was images of coffins. That isn't a black out. It just isn't.
 
Were the names read on the spanish chanel? What about all the other non-english speakers? What about those too young to understand words?
What about Bravo and Granube? How would they know what was going on without pictures?

I agree that this post illistrates a major flaw in our culture. It is so easy to blame the media, but the problem is not the media, blaming the media is akin to blaming a mirror for a blemish.

The media, for the most part, is a reflection of society. They do not tell us what to be intertested in, they show us what we are interested in. They show what will attract us so that they can in turn sell soap. This is classic capitolism and market economics. The media is not a "liberal" media, it is a reflection of what people will pay attention to.... Why is PBS's viewership so much lower than NBC's?

And, yes, they were read on the Spanish channel. Do you know why? Many of their kids are in the service.

At least now you are comprehending that information that is there for us to find isn't "blacked out"... When it is read to us nightly it is clear it isn't "blacked out"... That you really wanted to see the streaker doesn't mean that the game was blacked out... seriously Dune, this is almost as stupid as arguing that something that is alive, isn't.

You are being obstinate and didn't address all my questions. Adults watch the news, kids watch what the adults are watching. I saw coffins coming off planes when I was 5. It affected who I am today and how I feel about war. Everyone deserves the chance to start hating war when they are 5.
