No disrespect intended brother .. seriously there isn't and I have much respect for your thoughts. I'd rather not have this conversation with you then have you think it anything other than an honest conversation.

But what you just stated is the part I don't get. Disagreement is human nature .. it's life. Grabbing a gun because you're threatened and then considering "deadly force" is beyond my comprehension. I have no understanding of that. In a fight, pain will probably be inflicted and although I might take some, I'm going to give some. When it's over, everybody goes home or to the hospital.

On the rare ocassions that I've had to physically defend myself, when it's over, even knowing that the person I fought deserved the outcome, I feel badly about having to hurt someone, but I feel good about not taking it to the extreme. I can't imagine shooting an unarmed person, possibly killing them because I was afraid.

I simply have no understanding of that.
guns are not evil. they are tools. that is all. they can be used for good or for ill. It all depends upon the intent of the user.

yes, disagreement is part of human nature. I have no problem with disagreements. I even encourage lively debate. I'll usually shut it down if my fellow debater seems to be unable to restrain him or her self because I try to avoid potentially violent conflict.

The 'grabbing a gun' part is a two step method for me. The hope is that it deters escalation. If simply showing a gun de-escalates or ends a potentially violent conflict, I'm the happier for it. The second is if I may actually have to use it. There are people out there stupid enough to believe that they can beat the gun. It's those people that can't be trusted to 'stop' when the so called 'fair fight' is over. People are cruel and barbaric. some people just won't stop at 'surrender'. I will not willingly trust that a person trying to fight me won't curb stomp me.

Leads me to my next dilemma. I know some martial arts and I have some hand to hand combat training from my time in the USMC. That doesn't make me invincible. That just means that 'if necessary' I can attempt to defend myself if I have to.

No disrespect brother, I just do not understand gun mentality.
no disrespect taken. :clink:

what you term the 'gun mentality', to me, is just common sense to utilize the best tools available for defense of myself and my loved ones. I've no with to harm anyone, but even more i've no with to be harmed.

Thanks for taking the time for clarity.

As always, I appreciate your thoughts.

Whatever, it's no big deal it was the last time I was in Canada that I enjoyed without being kicked out.

You were kicked out of Canada?

I have been kicked out of bars, out of restaurants, and even out of a concert. But I have never been kicked out of an entire country.

Yeah well I go above and beyond when I get trashed. In all reality I could probably get back into Canada. But when the police chiefs of Toronto, Windsor, and Sarnia say "If we catch in our city again you will not leave Canada in the same condition you entered" I figure it's best to just stay away from the whole country.

You must be a lotta fun to party with, my friend. lol

Those french guys will take away your virginity. :pke:

Eh I wouldn't know. All the Canadians I deal with are from Windsor and thus pricks.

You've been hanging out with the wrong Canadiens.

When I lived in Detroit my fiends and I would drive to Toronto and Montreal evey year, sometimes more than once. We were always treated far better than we were at home, especially in cities outside of Detroit.

Throughout my teenage years, we used to go to Windsor for concerts .. and I used to go to be on a dance show they broadcast on local Detroit TV. Never had a problem with anyone from Windsor .. our problems were when we got back home.

When I lived in Seattle, I would go into Canada to visit and have never experienced rude or angry Canadiens. In fact, one of the reasons that Seattle is the open city that it is, is because of the Canadiens who live there.

Canadiens don't come with the same phobias and biases of Americans.

In Montreal, the French were especially cool and inquisitive.

It seems it's different now. Of course it could be me. Almost all my encounters with Canadians have been while I've been drinking so I may have rubbed them the wrong way. I will say the Canadian MC's were alot of fun to party with.

The key to this discussion my good brother is "I've ben drinking." :0)

Canada is a beautiful place filled with wonderful and interesting people.

Have you ever been to Toronto?

I could spend an entire day on Front Street just marveling at the architecture of the buildings. For pompous Americans who think we are the best of everything .. they need to get out more. It is a truly international city.

Try the Underground Restaraunt .. aptly named so because it was the last stop of the Underground Railroad .. where humans used to run to to escape from Hell.

If you like to eat though .. try Montreal .. and the women are sensuous. Surface beauty is one thing, sensuality is something different.

I love Canada .. almost moved there.

I never been to Montreal and have since been kicked out of Toronto. But it wasn't bad when I was there. I'm sure you know the Detroit tradition when you turn 19.

I know the tradition brother .. but now that you're wiser :0) .. unless you can't get back into Canada you should consider going back .. wiser .. and enjoying the culture from a new perspective.

The wonder for me when I first started going was the feeling of being in a country where everybody treated you as a human, not a suspect. It was a place that respected culture and differences. Damn near blew my mind as a teenager.

As an African-American I owe Canada a debt of gratitude .. so if and when you can, go back and enjoy. :0)

A gun in a holster is not brandishing. not now, never was.

Stop trying to split a hair....NO ONE ELSE WAS WALKING AROUND WITH AN EXPOSED, HOLSTERED GUN.

My previous statements stand.
