Who Called Them "Assault Weapons"?

Howey

Banned
Once again I expose the hypocrisy of the gun nuts for their failure using semantics in the discussion of banning assault rifles more important than the discussion itself.

Finally, where did the term "assault weapon" get it's modern-day description? From gun advocates!

“Assault rifle” was first used to describe a military weapon, the Sturmgewehr, produced by the Germans in World War II. The Sturmgewehr — literally “storm rifle,” a name chosen by Adolf Hitler — was capable of both semiautomatic and full-automatic fire. It was the progenitor for many modern military rifles.

But the term “assault rifle” was expanded and broadened when gun manufacturers began to sell firearms modeled after the new military rifles to civilians. In 1984, Guns & Ammo advertised a book called “Assault Firearms,” which it said was “full of the hottest hardware available today.”

“The popularly held idea that the term ‘assault weapon’ originated with antigun activists, media or politicians is wrong,” Mr. Peterson wrote. “The term was first adopted by the manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and dealers in the American firearms industry to stimulate sales of certain firearms that did not have an appearance that was familiar to many firearm owners. The manufacturers and gun writers of the day needed a catchy name to identify this new type of gun.”

So how about y'all gun nuts get past the semantics and enter a serious, adult conversation to keep these assault weapons out of the hands of those who will use them to kill innocent children and adults?

Finally, I'd like to share a quote from my hubby:

If you need a semi-automatic rifle to kill a deer, maybe you shouldn't be trying to shoot deer?

Armalite Rifles post shooting of the theatre deemed themself *Assault Rifles*. In the confusion after the shooting I went to their website which flexed their muscles and pounded their chest about selling Assault Rifles.

In a discussion about a week and a half later someone told me they didn't know the difference, the new NRA trend of "I'm acting really stupid and trying to dance around the topic". I looked at the website to copy/paste it from Armalite and they changed their entire web page.

After the change it was like selling designer butter knives. "These are just black butter knives"

It's funny how when faced with the truth the gun nuts run away like scared little children.

Isn't a baseball bat an assault weapon?

I saw a Jason Statham movie where be used a spoon and a butter knife to kill 6 guys. One of the greatest fight scenes in a movie ever. Some if it was fantastical but it's clear to see how both a spoon and a butter knife could be assault weapons in the hands of someone trained and willing to do damage.

Yeah, like a highly trained thespian working closely with a team of fight choreographers and cameramen!

As I said some of it fantastical some very possible.

Ya think, Einstein???

LOL. I've watched my share of Statham movies and they are a kick! Love 'em. It's fake. Sorry to break it to you. I'm sure someone could use a spoon to kill a person but the fact that you are trying to draw "real world" conclusions based on a Jason Statham movie is hilarious!

Spoons are used all the time to stab people in prison. This his hardly shocking news.

Ummmm, is it a significant problem where you live? I can't find a lot of data on this "hot topic". Please...give us the scoop, Bernstein!

Finally, I'd like to share a quote from my hubby:

There is no such thing as an 'assault rifle'. It is unconstitutional to ban or limit any gun, including the AR-15 design. Rifles aren't just for hunting deer. Semiautomatic rifles are just fine for hunting deer.

You've obviously never hunted anything.

Is a 9mm an assault weapon or just a pistol?

A 9mm is a bullet, not a gun. It is used in many different types of guns. It is very successful in pistol, but has a long history of being used in submachine guns. Submachine guns are fully automatic, so new ones have been illegal in the USA for almost 40 years. In fact, some 9mm guns would be considered machine guns by the 1934 law banning machine guns, and thus have been illegal for almost a hundred years now.

I have even seen 9mm rifles, though why someone would want to do that is beyond me.

Isn't a baseball bat an assault weapon?

Nope, it is a baseball bat. It is used for playing a sport. Can you hit someone with it? yep. You can commit assault with it. But it was still designed for a game. An assault weapon was designed for the express purpose of assaulting another human being. Originally, to kill enemy soldiers. It should have stayed there.

Back in the days of the mongoloids and neandrethals, there was no conception of a military force, yet they had assault weapons...........ANY weapon is used for the express purpose of assaulting or defending another person or yourself. Violence is a NECESSARY trait and skill to have, IF one chooses to protect your own life, or the lives of others.
