All things equal, the democrats will win not only the White House, but they should pick up a few more seats as well. However, the democrats will do what democrats do and remain slightly less evil than republicans.
The problem isn't Democrat Party or the Republican Party, it's the system and the American people ourselves. We deserved George Bush and we will deserve whatever we get in '08. That's not a popular discussion and how dare I even say it. "Patriotism", at least the version they sold us, demands that you must be blind and about half a step above being a goosestepper.
70% of Americans are against this war and want the troops brought home.
So what? .. Big deal. Who in power really gives a fuck what Americans want? We voted in democrats to end the war .. they get into office and 30.000 MORE troops get sent to Iraq and billions and BILLIONS more dollars get sent to Iraq .. and while they're giving the people who voted for them the finger, they decide, hey .. let's sign some more Bush shit and threaten Iran .. then we'll act surprised if he nukes 'em.
Who's going to win the democratic nomination? .. Xena the War Queen. Democratic voters are antiwar? .... Sure? And whoever the republicans nominate won't be any different than Bush.
At one time Democrats and Republicans were the same party. They've simply come full circle and become the same party again.
In my opinion, Ron Paul would be the doorman to the complete implosion of American government and the end of the American empire. It would be the culmantion of the bloodless coup by the pluotcrats/puppetmasters.
You know Paul wants to remove all restrictions on corporations and campaign financing, and he doesn't even believe there should be a "United" States. He believes America should be broken up into smaller nation-states.
"Why do we need the federal government? There's no Cold War and no Communist threat. Many other nations are breaking into smaller and smaller pieces. The centralization of power in Washington occurred in a different time. Why not think about getting rid of the federal government, returning to the system of our Founders, and breaking up the United States into smaller government units? .. (Austin Chronicle, 1996)
We could be Europe, or just allow corporations to buy states like bowl games. Could be like, Microsoft-California, Chevron-Texas, Bloomberg-New York, or Franks Pork Belly-Mississippi.
The immigration issue is proof of how easily we are manipulated. The press are the strings that are attached to the American brain. The puppetmasters pull those strings to make us dance.
What can the American people do to regain control of our government and wrest control from the corporate will?
Not a goddamn thing.
ZERO
We refuse to take the red pill and wake up. Our illusion is too comfortable and our fear too deep.
"... all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
Shit like that takes courage .. courage that we don't have.
I will certainly agree that we get the government we deserve in this country; and we have been electing thugs for a long time because of our national atavism.
Re: Ron Paul - when has he ever said "remove all restrictions from corporations"?!? That's an irresponsible charge that I would like to see backed up by proof. Ron Paul is not an anarcho-capitalist (nor am I) and even if he wanted to remove many restrictions, he would not be able to get it through Congress - but be could change foreign policy while president rather dramatically. Ron Paul HAS stated he is against corporate welfare and subsidies. He has also stated he is for returning to the gold standard. The largest corporations are not too excited about these ideas, especially in high finance. Ron Paul and I disagree on environmental policy to an extent, but I recognize that he is probably not going to change that alone.
Corporate power is most advanced through big government. It wasn't until the Civil War when Corporations started gaining real power through legislation that involved Federal subsidies (railroads) and secret bedfellows (corporate personhood). If one is for individual rights, one does not favor one group over another (ie corporations).
