Who was really the greatest philosopher of the 20th-century

Ahimsa dumbass

That doesn't apply to self defense and just war. The British were killing, oppressing, and imprisoning Indian dissidents, giving Hindus moral justification for self defense, if they wanted to choose it.

The only South Asian religious tradition that really embraces total non-violent pacifism is Jainism.

ahimsa is hinduism in genral.

your 'war Hinduism' is bullshit and you're an idot.

The Greatest Philosopher is NAMECHECKRITES. Namecheckrites (pronounced "Name Check riteeeees") was a famous philosopher who just happened to say EXACTLY what some of our more intelligent posters agrees with on any given topic. If the poster believes something but (as usual) is unable to defend their own beliefs using their own words we are treated to NAMECHECKRITES. Namecheckrites simply shuts down the conversation.

You are wrong if you disagree with Namecheckrites. Namecheckrites is the greatest philosopher.

ahimsa applies to all facets of life.

Unjustified and unprovoked violence is frowned upon in all major world religions.

Self-defense and morally justified war is perfectly acceptable in Hinduism.

The mistreatment of Hindu people by British invaders would have been a perfectly morally acceptable reason for self-defense in Hindu tradition. Ghandi's principle of nonviolent protest was a political response to the conditions of British occupation of India, and was probably more influenced by Thoreau and Tolstoy, than it was by the Vedas or the Bhaghavad Gita.

oh is it now?

Yes, unequivocally clear. The most widely read Hindu sacred text, the Bhaghavad Gita, makes crystal clear that self-defense and morally justified war is not only acceptable, it is a duty.
actually islam promotes jihad against infidels.

and Jews feel entitled to genocide the descendants of amalek, or whatever.
