Fact is collectivism started when we started living in groups. It has always been the human way. We had groups (collectives) from before Egypt and the pharaohs. We all get benefits from collectives, from access to goods to protection.

You'll note that the competitive species are close to dying out, the co-operative doing brilliantly. Notice, too, how we've gained by co-operating with other species. Still, I imagine that as an American extremists, you believe the book of Genesis rather than Darwinism as understood by later science and minus the Victorian capitalism murk.
