Why APP Board is NOT above the fray!

I know many of you thought my last sabbatical from the forum was a result of the controversy over the APP board rules. It wasn't, but it may have been the catalyst for finally doing some things I had been putting off. I don't have to come here and post, I can move on with my life and enjoy it, without ever thinking about this forum. I can do this for a month, a year, doesn't matter. So when I do come here and post, it is because I want to, not because I need to.

I will admit, at first, it shocked me that Damo would call a board "above the fray" and present it as a fair objective alternative to the 'trash talk' in the other forums, then establish the "rules" so vaguely and understated. I couldn't understand why he didn't see that tolerating name-calling and "petty" insulting, was not "above the fray" but was precisely what needed to be restricted. It puzzled me for a few weeks, then I realized what was happening.

You see, Damo, and his sidekick Grind, are libertarian moderates. Being ideologues, they fear unbridled power by social conservatives as much as liberals, so they maintain this "sense of fairness and balance" which always gives the liberal the benefit of the doubt. By doing this, they maintain a public perception of being "moderate" while helping their ideological cause. As long as liberals and social conservatives can't resolve their issues, the libertarians can justify their ideology and gain progress in politics.

We can all clearly see how intellectual debates work here. Someone conservative posts something profoundly truthful and to the point, and liberals turn the thread into a trash pit of diversions, insults, personal attacks, off-topic rhetoric, anything BUT tangible rebuttal on the issue. This has become the standard "debate style" for liberals here. Find something unrelated to the topic, divert the thread conversation, lie about something they said once, talk about their mother, call them racist, and keep avoiding the actual debate of the issue, while proclaiming yourself victorious.

This is why Damo has to allow liberals the flexibility to insult and call names in the "above the fray" board, because they don't know any other way to debate! It would just put them at too much of an unfair disadvantage to require them to post without name-calling and insults. Damo has to make sure and keep it "fair" and can't really tie the hands of the liberals too much, they may start thinking of him as a non-moderate! So this is why we get the song and dance from Grind about how the rules work, rather than establishment of a truly "above the fray" forum.

Some of you will undoubtedly respond with the predictable charges, that I am full-o-sour-grapes or whatever, or that I can't let this go... but you see, I have let it go, now that I understand it! It took me a while to figure it out, but now that I understand it never was intended to be a real "above the fray" forum, I completely get it. I have also realized something else very important in the process. I don't have to observe Damo's phony labels, or Grinds bogus rules, I can establish my own "above the fray" forum.

From now on, I will only post in the "Current Events" forums, because what I have to say IS a current event. I have already begun a process of "banning" people from my "above the fray" forum, through the "ignore user" function. Eventually, I will "ban" all the people who can't seem to argue the substance of the issue on its merit, and have to resort to name-calling and personal insults. I realized that my system empowers ME, not Damo or Grind. I can make the arbitrary judgment of when someone has crossed the line with ME, and take the appropriate action. The best thing is, there is no appeal process, and I don't have to report it to anyone or explain my actions.

So, I'm good! Damo and Grind can carry on their little liberal circle jerk, and pretend they are moderate, fair-minded and impartial, and I can eliminate the jerks who piss me off. Everybody wins!

That url is dead. I don't know what you were posting.

And, Dix, enjoy the board in whatever fashion you want.

Someone may have posted something profoundly truthful but it sure as hell was never you. You have the debating skills of a drug stupefied, "Cahulawassee" river resident. :)

Eventually, I will "ban" all the people who can't seem to argue the substance of the issue on its merit, and have to resort to name-calling and personal insults.

We should also note you wrote the following:

"Yes, you fucking moron"………..November 01/09

"Yes you stupid uneducated fucker"……..October 31/09

So, Dixie, can you say "hypocritical asshole"?

Will you be banning yourself?

I don't have to come here and post, I can move on with my life and enjoy it,...

Now I know you're delusional. Don't try and tell us you can function in the real world. Move on and enjoy your life? You mean go a little further up the "Cahulawassee" river, don't you?

I know there is no point in responding to this due to your nature of being a simpleton knuckle dragger, but what can I say, it's fun.

LOL.

now that I understand it! It took me a while to figure it out,
(Because you are a backwards, uneducated knuckle dragging simpleton)

but now that I understand it never was intended to be a real "above the fray" forum, I completely get it. I have also realized something else very important in the process.
I know you are likely being facetious, but there is a lot of truth to this. I'm also bemused at how it took you 3 months to understand this versus the 2 days of everybody else. We wanted a forum that mainly dealt with excessivley harsh language (racism, sexism), and of course a few other things here and there. We didn't want to ban people for calling someone a "baby"

You, being a stupid knuckle dragging retard, did not understand this. I am glad you have finally caught up to the rest of the class though.

You see dixie, it is "above" what the rest of the forum is, it's just not as high as you would like. Which is why you cried like a little girl.

Cool, glad you are sticking around

Jesus God, here we go again...

Oh, I know there is a lot of truth to it, in fact, it's all complete truth! You wanted a forum where you could play Big Chief, and get your egotistical rocks off. You never intended on having a true "above the fray" forum, because that would mean you'd have to disallow the liberals the ability to smear and insult, and that is their main debate tactic! You couldn't be "unfair" to them, so you created this silly and absurd criteria for what you consider "above the fray" and that is what you enforce, whenever you feel like it. You can also use your powers to humiliate those who complain, by mocking them, calling them names and eventually editing the offending posts with little sarcastic symbolism's to draw attention to the one who complained. So even though you are forced to enforce the rules you set, you can still use your power to disparage others.

You cannot have a forum that will stay "above the fray" with subjective rules such as Damo and his pet monkey ridiculously imposed. The illogical and misguided belief that made Damo think that you can, gives a person of intelligence much pause. This though is a dead horse argument Dixie. You were right they were wrong. Annie, Digital Dave, myself and others pointed out the fallacy to no avail so it must be said again:gives:

Oh yes, you Social Conservatives are SOOOO above name calling and insults. One need only look at the two quotes from you Dicksie to show that you are not above calling people morons etc. The truth of the matter is there is a small cadre of social conservatives that come on here, post on issues like homosexuality with little or no real basis in reality and then cyber daisy chain eachother by giving eachother huge amounts of rep as if that shows how smart you all are and how much EVERYONE agrees with you. I for one wish you would stay the fuck away. Your posts border on being mental masturbation where you go on for 6,7 or more paragraphs in an attempt to prove how erudite you are. It is on nights like this that I read and re-read your posts, they beat counting sheep and aren't addictive like pills. But that is the beginning and end of the usefulness you serve on this site. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow and you would be nothing more than a footnote on this site. We would say "you remember that self righteous prick Dicksie?" That would truly be the beginning and the end of it. Rub some vagisil on, make sure you get it in the folds. The hurt won't go away but at least the itching will subside.
