Why are most Russian fighter jets bigger and heavier than American jets?

Dumbassery and Iggy badges would be a good addition. Got any more idea to add?

I have been reading for several years that it is common knowledge that any pilot saying anything negative about the f-35 to anyone but his chain of command is a potential career ender...thus what they say is relatively useless.
believe what you want. I dont care.
The helmet design was a mess for a long time -they fixed the bugs

The F-35 is being used all over NATO.. It's an awesome standoff platform, dogfights, not so much

Other technologies to be incorporated in the aircraft include stealth, optional manning, directed-energy weapons and hypersonic weapons.

The aircraft’s ability to exchange data with multiple platforms will provide armed forces with a comprehensive picture of the future battlespace. It will use swarming technologies to control drones while the Cooperative Engagement Capability will allow the platforms to coordinate during attack or defence operations. A futuristic radar technology, known as a multi-function radiofrequency system, being developed for Tempest will be able to provide over 10,000 times more data than existing systems. It will deliver significant advantage in combat situations through the ability to locate and target enemy platforms beforehand.

yeah, but you only hear really stupid retarded shit, bitch. because that is all you post- total bullshit and right wing crap like a dumbass.

6th generation

Imagine someone who wants trump to grab her private parts without asking, who spews the stupidest, lyingest shit, who believes the bullshit about rigged elections, and trump not being responsible for the attack on the capitol- TRYING TO PRETEND SHE HAS A CLUE ABOUT MILITARY OR STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGY AND TACTICS. this is so far over her limited mental capabilities it is like asking a pig to solve a quadratic equation.

ad hom trash. utterly without merit and showing no concept of coherence

no. the F-35 "heads up" helmet display is awesome, despite design problems

This is just a further refinement Im not even sure WTF "6th generation" means -maybe more integration?
Byt the time we got the F-35 sold in production, it was dated..such is aerotech

believe what you want. I dont care.

The main problem is it loses much of its stealth capability if have JDAMs or missiles on external hard points.

It's highly capable; just a financial black hole, unfortunately.

https://www.quora.com/Why-are-most-Russian-fighter-jets-bigger-and-heavier-than-American-jets

Russia has indeed opted to focus on bigger and heavier aircraft than the US. While the US has opted to concentrate on smaller designs like the F-16, F/A-18 and F-35, the Flanker family is currently the backbone of the Russian Air Force. Flankers are roughly equivalent in size to the US’s F-15 and F-22, which were only procured in comparatively small numbers.

Russian defense planners believe that airbases are becoming increasingly vulnerable to stand-off munitions like cruise missiles. Fighter aircraft are indisputably one of the most powerful classes of systems on the modern battlefield. As such, in a conventional war an emphasis would be placed on knocking out the other side’s fighters in the first hours of combat. Fighters can be particularly vulnerable, because they spend most of their time at fixed bases. The location of these bases is generally known to the other side. These bases are easy targets for modern precision-guided weapons like cruise missiles.

To mitigate some of this vulnerability, the Russian Air Force has focused on acquiring fighters with longer ranges. This allows Russia’s fighters to base outside the range of many stand-off munitions. Additionally, it increases the probability that any munitions fired against a base will be intercepted before they manage to reach their target. It also increases reaction time. If the fighter pilots know an hour in advance that a strike is coming, they might be able to get their planes in the air, avoiding the destruction of their aircraft.

Every aircraft is a compromise in design. That compromise is designed around the intended mission for that aircraft. It is no different for fighter jets.

Larger aircraft have the advantage of a higher payload. That means armament, fuel (greater range), more avionics, a 2nd crewmember, etc. It also means slightly less maneuverability. It is more stable in the air though.
Smaller aircraft have the advantage of better maneuverability. The US tended to very smart aircraft for their fighters that will do all kinds of wonderful things for you. This allows a level of automation in flight that can really make a difference. The Russians tends to dumber aircraft, and build lots of them. It's kind of like the difference between our satellite programs as well.

Which is better? There really is no 'better'. Both designs have their advantages and disadvantages. You have listed some other advantages of the larger aircraft design.

The last time Dems had any credibility on matters of defense was pre-Vietnam War.

i guess because russians like to be third best when it comes to having the best fighter jets and pilots. Some experts have them ranked above the Israelis.

Russian fighter jets and their pilots are actually damn good. The US jets and pilots are also damn good. Depending on the type of battle conditions, one or the other may prevail.

Never underestimate your opponent.

we have about twice as many aircraft and our pilots are better. period.

As a rule of thumb, in order to increase an aircraft’s range, it has to be made larger. As a result, Russia has decided to focus on acquiring heavy fighters. There are other advantages associated with these types of planes.
They can carry a larger payload. Their ability to carry more missiles increases their effectiveness in an air-to-air, because all things considered the more missiles they send down range, the increased probability of a hit. Additionally, fighters with larger engines generate more electrical power, allowing them to house more powerful radars and other sensors.

Nevertheless, larger aircraft like the Flanker are also more expensive. The US ultimately opted to focus on smaller aircraft to allow them to buy more of them. However, the Russian military found that light fighters like the Mig-29 were not that much cheaper than heavy fighters like the Su-27 to make up for the lost capabilities.

Sukhoi 35 is a beautiful aircraft

Sukhoi 57 is their 5th generation stealth fighter, and it would be interesting to see how it matches up with F-35

Yes it is. It has some capabilities that exceed any US design. Despite this, I think it would basically be a fair fight.

Why the fuck do you care? You belong to a cult that hates America and it’s people. You hate democracy, and unless your phony god / king gets his way, you would rather see this nation destroyed. Putin doesn’t need big ass jets when he has YOU AND YOUR TRAITOROUS HORDE OF CRIMINALS TRYING TO DESTROY AMERICA FROM THE INSIDE.

Now, with Biden in office trying to restore civility, you pretend to care about the security of a nation you’re desperately trying to destroy. YOU and your traitorous komrades have no honor, no integrity, and no respect for democracy, the Constitution, elections, or the peaceful transition of power. “Russia has bigger jets...” Whar a fucking fraud you are. No doubt that if those jets attacked America, WHICH YOU HATE, you and your boys would be cheering and eating popcorn.
