Capitalism is good, but unbridled capitalism results in monopolies and power concentrated into a very small minority. Regulated capitalism is the best path and what has fueled the wealth of the world.

Jobs is the top one. Add to that the "grubstake" necessary to move elsewhere. That also takes people away from family. Cultures that are very close to their families are reluctant to leave since they tend to place family over profit.

True. Also, over long periods of time, groups of similar people establish their own mini-cultures in the areas where they live. Music venues, food, groceries that stock "ethnic" ingredients, beauty salons, shops that carry favorite clothing styles, etc. North County in the St. Louis suburbs is a good example. In general its demographics now are majority black, residents who left St. Louis City a couple of generations ago. In many 'burbs (Ferguson is a good example) those kinds of shops transplanted also. But in others where black ppl are still relative newcomers, residents will travel back into St. Louis to find the familiar things of their mini-culture. The very idea of them wanting to live in the far distant St. Louis suburbs -- assuming they could even afford it -- is pretty laughable. People are more comfortable with the familiar than with the strange. We also tend to avoid living in areas where prejudice against us is likely. Most cities also have enclaves of immigrants. St. Louis has a number of Bosnian immigrants who tend to live close by each other; there is also a Vietnamese area.

An article in the Atlantic from two years ago about black people moving out of cities.

Oakland was 47% black when my family moved there in 1981. Today it is maybe 22% and Hispanics outnumber blacks. San Francisco peaking in the ‘70’s when the city was 15% black. Today it’s maybe 5%. South Central LA was like 80% black into the ‘80’s and early ‘90’s. Today it is a majority Hispanic.

Black people started fleeing cities decades ago. And now, like people of all races, some are being priced out.

As to why they don’t just go to the most rural areas? Where are the jobs? (And that’s nothing unique to black people.)
