Why do some conservatives admire Putin?

Because they mistakenly equate leadership with blatant displays of power, brutality, an iron fist, and military strength.

Good to know the libchicks are preparing for their road trip ....that's really key;)Nothing more important than family, these days:))

This is nonsense, I don't know a single conservative who admires Putin.

Trump does.

There were quite a few self-styled conservatives on the old Amazon forum who claimed that Putin was a strong leader, not a "wimp" like Obama. They often quoted Russian polls purporting to show how beloved Putin is by his own people, too.

Trump does not admire Putin, that's bs. The only "conservatives" who admire Putin, aren't conservatives at all. At least not in the traditional American sense of the word. Libs tend to lump white nationalists and Nazis in with conservatives, they're wrong.

“I think I get along with him fine,” Trump said of the Russian president in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper in July, and said if he became president Russia would hand over NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden.

“I think he would be absolutely fine. He would never keep somebody like Snowden in Russia. He hates Obama. He doesn't respect Obama. Obama doesn't like him either. But he has no respect for Obama. Has a hatred for Obama. And Snowden is living the life. Look if that—if I'm president, Putin says, hey, boom, you're gone. I guarantee you this.”

On the campaign trail, he went on to repeat his praise for Putin. That November, Trump had defended Putin from accusations he authorised the assassination of journalists and dissidents.

“He’s running his country and at least he’s a leader, unlike what we have in this country,” Trump said in an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

He added: "I think our country does plenty of killing also, Joe, so you know. There's a lot of stupidity going on in the world right now, a lot of killing going on, a lot of stupidity."

And as Trump's campaign gained momentum, he was rewarded with praise from the Russian president. Putin described Trump as “outstanding and talented” at an event in Moscow in December."

lol, that reminds me of Bush I's 'wimp factor'. Never could figure that out. He played college baseball at Yale and was a WWII pilot. He was right up there with Gerald Ford and Reagan as far as being a stud, IMO.
When I think of presidential wimps the first that comes to mind is Carter, then Obama .

OF course you do. Rational men of reason are frequently seen as wimps by conservatives. I never though of Bush I as a wimp personally, but I do recall him being labeled that. By conservatives.

Ford , Reagan and Bush I were rational men of reason. They were most definitely not wimps.

Why do some conservatives admire Putin?

Is it because he champions small government, low taxes, and free competition?

It does not have anything to do with Putin, and everything to do with Obama.
Putin, the ex-KGB henchman and current authoritarian oligarch has been around for nearly two decades. And conservatives did not start worshipping him until about Obama's second term. Why? Because their irrational, hyper-partisan, party-over-country hatred for Obama is embedded in their DNA, and they would choose to side with a Russian dictator over an American president.

By the time Putin was invading Crimea and eastern Ukraine, he had evolved into a geopolitical foe of Obama. And the simple fact that he was perceived as a foe - even an enemy, of Obama - that was all the American rightwing needed to find common cause with Putin, an ally of sorts; indeed even enough to worship him. Pretty sure those pictures of Putin with his shirt off was enough to titillate some rightwing dudes, and cause their hearts to flutter.

Trump.. I admire Vladimir Putin. I respect him. He does his job much better than our Bush.

He is running his country and at least he is a leader unlike what we have in this country.

All the Russian Trump speaks is "Vlad do you want a blow job"? He kisses up to him and has for years.
