Why do we Like Israel?

Disillusioned

In response to all the "We gotta attack Iran Otherwise they're gonna kill israel"

I'm not up on enough of the older history but just based on recent events. Why are we friends with Israel? They like us? We no surprise there we're funding their military. Because they keep an eye on the "evil muslims"? Because They're Jewish? Holocaust guilt?

There have been statements about how the president is tearing apart good relations with Israel, and my question is, why do we have those relations in the first place? These are the people who blow up civilians, ignore international opinion, and consistantly attack their neighbors. It's like being friends with Taiwan just because they don't like China.

I'm not anti-Israel (well, admittedly, I think it should never have been created, so that might constitute hostility), but I'm not pro-Israel, either. If it were a ravaged, defenseless country, I would probably be a huge supporter, but it clearly does not need us to remain in a strong position. The fact that its capable of handing Iranian policy is proof of that.

israel is an interesting topic. should it have been created? why not? should we be their allies? absolutely. they are the only ally in the ME.

there is much more, but i'll leave it at that for now.

why do you believe israel should not have been created?

Because we knew what kind of a mess we were creating for ourselves, and did it anyway.

really? we knew back then the current mess? i don't think so. the arab states were very weak back then. the arabs lost, jews had been buying up land there for decades, it was a no brainer.

also, should we not do something because it might create a mess?

WE didn't know, but we didn't think either. We just said, "here have it, the sand niggers can fuck off to another sandbox, it's not like they're people anyway." We made the problem and walked away.

Yes that was intentionally racist on my part.

Excellent question and simple answer.

You like Israel because you are told to like Israel.
It should not be necessary for me to explain further than that, after all you are all extremely intelligent.

you make no sense. first off, it wasn't just "us"....second...what is the problem with israel? muslims conquered land....why bitch about a tiny fraction of the land?

As a secular Jew you must admit to a certain amount of partisanship, surely?

We're bitching because that had been arab/muslim land for hundreds of years, and I mean that litterally, more than a 1000 years of muslim and arab history is in that land, do you think the brits would be a trifle annoyed if China dropped off some people in York, said "Hey this is their place now." And then funded the hell out of their army. It's the high handed treatment that is the problem, the "We're first world countries so we're doing what we want" attitude that makes us rage.

And yes I know it wasn't just US(in both terms hehe) it was Britain, France, pretty much all of the west. Interestingly enough Russia recognized Israel before the US did.

The Arab states are still weak, today, yet no one anticipated the 1949 war going so well for Israel, either. Personally, I am a fan of not creating a mess for oneself, and to generally not do things which will create extra work.

Yet another brilliantly made point by LowIQ. Always full of reasoned arguments, that fellow...

now we get down to it. how did the muslims/arabs acquire that land?

Being born there helps

Islam converted by the sword, but the arabs were the guys who got converted/did the converting, they were there before. It's called self determination, look up woodrow wilson if the concept is unfamiliar.

Yes that was snide, but the argument brings out the worst in me.
