Why Don't We Just End The Drug War? - Remove The Basis For Violence And Immigration.

What if we take all the money we are spending on dealing with the drug war and ramped up border control, and used it instead for drug rehab?

The reason there is so much gang activity in Central America is because the USA is a major consumer of illegal drugs.

We could completely wipe out that entire market by making all drugs legal; and using our funds more wisely on combating drug abuse.

Instead of keeping drugs illegal and treating drug abuse as a crime, we should take different approach.

Treat drug abuse as a mental health issue. (Because that's what it is.)

Police, courts and prisons are obviously not an effective way of treating drug abuse. IT'S NOT WORKING!!!

Time to try another approach. Take care of two massive problems with one logical solution.

Because it's a $10B+ industry and gives the State carte blanche to do essentially whatever it wants with police.

What is a $10B industry?

Legal drugs or illegal?

Can't we wipe out the illegal drugs and the illegal immigrants with one fail swoop?

Most of them leave their homes because they are threatened by drug gangs.

We could turn that right around at the source.

Keeping drugs illegal, I.E. the policing of drugs generates 10B+ a year for police departments and states.
 
I'm a firm believer that humans have a fundamental right to do whatever they want with their own bodies (after reaching the age of majority of course). That applies to taking drugs, body modifications and committing suicide.
 
Legalize and control all drugs. We could tax them and pay for rehab and medical interventions. We would end policing, judging and jailing of drug users. We would end drug interdictions. How many billions would that save us and how much damage to human beings? It would cut crimes because junkies rob and kill to feed their habits. It would slash drug gang wars.
It would also cut the drug businesses and cartels that are corrupting many nations.
Those making profits of this system will fight to their deaths to keep us in this mess.

It also gets cops killed pointlessly, and costs society.

Lots of cops want all drugs to be legalized.

They even created a movement:

No they don't, how else could they do whatever the fuck they wanted if they didn't "smell marijuana"? How else are they gonna justify murdering people for funsies?

Give the dope away.
It will kill gangs, reduce crime and let users OD quickly thereby solving the demand issue.

That's a matter of opinion. No doubt the job attracts that mentality, but it is a job that has to be done. Laws are meaningless without enforcement, and there must be law and order or society breaks down.

Legalize everything. Make Narcan and counseling as widely available as drugs. This is the pro-life position. Drug abuse is a disease. Abusers are victims. We need to try to save their lives.

The drugs have to be affordable. This will be sufficient to remove the profits from gangs and thus their power and reason for existence.

It falls upon society to pay for the rehab and treatment. And that will be cheaper than police, courts and prisons.

This will decrease the violence in Central America, and remove the main reason people leave their homes and flee toward the USA.

No illegal drug market - no gang violence - no reason for migration.

The USA has caused the illegal immigrant issue by treating a disease as a crime. The drug war hasn't worked. It has back fired. That's why we have so much illegal immigration. Consequences.
 
The great thing is to abolish all crimes against the State and return to the old law of compensation for those injured from all connected with the criminal. All Republicans, for instance, could be held responsible for Trump's crimes and pay compensation to everyone else. the NRA should pay large sums to the relatives of all those shot, and AIPAC should compensate all those mistreated in Palestine, and pay for all the land stolen. We'd see some major changes fast if we could enforce this!

I totally agree that gun owners should pay for the damages caused by guns. Register all guns, require their owners to pay into a fund which would be used to pay for all damages including medical bills and compensation to survivors.

Are you talking about all drugs that are currently illegal?
