Why have marriage at all?

ANd your fooling yourself to think it is.You just want to say ethics and morality is the same just so you can force your religious viewpoints of on everyone else through legislation
No, read what I just said. Ethics is based on morality. Whether that morality is Christian, Muslim, Hindu or other doesn't matter.

democrats will cut off their own feet for this issue, when not even an overwhelming majority of thier own party agree. I wish they would stfu on gay rights. Nobody is in jail for being gay their is zip benefit to the economy by allowing gay marriage.
It's as bad as the neomorons arguing to ban abortion. It ain't happening.

Marriage is a religious institution. Why is government involved at all. I think we should get rid of all laws concerning marriage and leave it to the religious institutions to deal with it.
Again we agree. This is disconcerting.

Marriage is IMO one area that the government invades into personal lives where they absolutely shouldn't be involved. It is both religious and absolutely personal. Laws should be in place setting age limits so youngsters aren't forced into things before they can properly choose, to ensure that all is on the up and up (so some dude isn't trying to keep two separate families making victims of two family units at once), etc.

On this we agree completely. The government should not be involved in marriage. If they want to give couples tax benefits, inheritance rights etc... then they can do so through civil unions. Those unions should be available to any two consenting non-related (sorry ditzie) adults.

Because a woman imparts a stabilizing influence on a man, countering his natural instincts to obtain his needs and desires through force instead of through cooperation. And because marriage between one woman and one man is the basic building block of the family, where the next generation is nurtured with the best possible examples of how to nurture the next.

OMG.

some chick took your nuts and put them in a jar.

When liberals change their tune and decide to limit government to its Constitutional authority then I'll agree with you. But since they insist on social engineering everything else this is one area that actually benefits society, which of course is why they want to tear it down.

Your logic escapes me once more. Are you gay?

You stated....

If it doesn't matter to you where the morality comes from, then why do you oppose the fact that the majority of this country thinks it is morally acceptable for gays to express their love for one another? That the majority do not think it is immoral as you do. Why do you insist upon YOUR set of morals and then turn around and say it doesn't matter whose morality we use?

The majority does not. Every time the People have had the chance to vote down queer marriage they have done so.

Are you gay?

We have secular marriage and religous marriage....

I was married at a golf corse by a notary.
