We are looking at a strong recovery in the next two years, mostly due to legislation passed in the last two years.

We have come from the brink of disaster to a much more stable footing, and now are poised to return to a robust and strongly growing economy....

If the Republicans are in control of Congress, even is nothing is passed, they will move to take credit.

WHAT strong recovery? No ONE is predicting a strong recovery in the next two years. NO ONE.

While the economy has stabilized to a degree, it is still on shaky ground and it won't take much to send us back over the edge.

Foreclosures are still high and increasing.

Unemployment is still high and not expected to drop under 8% in the next 18 months (at least).

Credit is still way too tight

Banks still have the ability to trade derivatives off books.

Hedge funds are still unregulated.

The EU is still facing the same debt problems.

The pension situation in the US is abysmal.... at best

Many states are still in nightmarish budget dilemmas (see CA, IL, MI etc...)

All those CDO's... they are still out there....

THERE IS A REASON THE FED JUST STATED THEY ARE WILLING TO PUMP MORE LIQUIDITY INTO THE MARKET. It is not because they think we are going to be seeing a strong recovery in the next two years.

how childish...you don't want them because they may take credit....obama can run around claiming credit all day for fixing the economy, yet the recession ended mere months into his term and yet you want him

you're a pathetic hack jarod

The recession ended about the time you jokers started blaming the economy on him... INteresting!

We have been through great economic improvements since Obama took office, yet he is blamed because of how SHITTY you man Bush made things!

Id love 2 more years of a Democratic supermajority...

Hell, we got Healthcare after an 80 year battle for it and ended the combat operations in an unjust and inhumane war... Who knows what two more years would bring us.

another $3 TRILLION in deficit spending?

another government program that will implode fiscally on future generations?

more regulations and taxes on small businesses?

higher taxes on the lower and middle income families?

It is truly a shock that a Democrat wants the Democrats to continue to control Congress. What next will you tell me there are Republicans that want the Republicans to take cover Congress?

And congrats to you Jarrod for doing well personally but the economy is not about to take off anytime soon.

Obama / Biden 2012

Would defeat even ....

Palin / Jesus 2012, and if she runs, she will be the Republican nominee!

Funny how so many were for the stimulus packages until they passed.... now they are all against them...

are you defining temporary as 'long term unsustainable debt'?

are you defining necessary as 'billions sitting around yet unpsent'?

The stimulus & bailouts are always going to be impossible to "prove" either way, as to whether they were effective or a waste.

At the moment, no one has the ability to muster up a parallel universe where they did not happen, to show where the economy would be today.

My guess? Since the economy lost almost $3 Trillion from the market crash through the passage of the stimulus, I'd say it's a fairly safe bet that it would have lost much more without it, and without GM surviving. GM failing alone would have been somewhat catastrophic, and would have cost the economy more than the stimulus & bailouts combined.

IMO. Again, I can't show you that parallel universe.

so instead of letting those failures to happen, even if we'd lost 6 trillion, y'all would rather continue the 'too big to fail' bubble lose air. nice job at continuing the economic decline.

That's a false choice. Reform can happen w/out the kind of creative destruction you're talking about.

I should add, I'm generally a fan of creative desctruction. But not in this case. If we had lost $6 Trillion, or 8, or 10 (who knows?), the pain would have been so deep, and so widespread, that it would actually be kind of hard to imagine it.

The fact that you can speak so casually & facetiously about it leads me to believe that you haven't even tried to imagine it.
