But anyway a dba has tech skills and is a part of these jobs that mott claims don't pay enough.
Database administrator? I am an MCDBA. There are not as many jobs for that skill set alone and I expect them to lose more as the technology advances.
I think Mott's point (and Mott, please correct me if I'm wrong) is that if we get a lot more programmers and DBAs from India coming over here on visas, that the pay rates for those jobs will drop because supply will be higher. Much like happened to network administrators back in the day... they were highly valued; but then everyone got their certificate from Novell or Microsoft; and now they are generally on the lower-paid side unless they have more skills than just running a server.
Uhhh....you don't read very well do you? What are these other jobs? I am a programmer doing pretty well. There are no jobs that I know of that will pay more. There are some I am beginning to think might be worth a paycut, but that's a different calculation.
They outsourced our entire help desk to an Indian firm.....We call them the "Helpless desk".That's absolutely the case. I worked for Oracle for several years and watched the transition Ellison made in replacing American workers with Indians.
It's not just that supply would be higher but that those foreign workers would be willing to work for far lower wages in the US cause they would still be far higher than what they could earn in India or much of Asia or Eastern Europe.I think Mott's point (and Mott, please correct me if I'm wrong) is that if we get a lot more programmers and DBAs from India coming over here on visas, that the pay rates for those jobs will drop because supply will be higher. Mixed with what? The evil and the truly evil?good point. It would be up to the company's HR dept to make sure that didn't happen but... well... HR depts can be mixed.
Mixed with what? The evil and the truly evil?
the only sane way to solves this is to allow people a path to citizenship.
Allowing people to become Americans is the American way to do this.
It will also solve the SS problem.
More workers of the right ages to shift the SS shortfall of workers
the one that includes lots of people of the same age.
You ever hear of the baby boom ?
