However, it is not written in stone and when Hamas became the governing party of Palestine it was made clear that there was significant room for manoeuvre on abandoning it as part of a long-term solution. Extremist organizations often do that type of thing when they get elected, you know? They formed a government of national unity with Fatah and declared their willingness to talk (2-state solutions, 50-year ceasefires, that type of extremist rhetoric)

Israel refused to talk to a government containing Hamas. They obviously didn't like what they nurtured.

This recalls not a normal Middle East bloodletting but an atrocity on the level of the Balkan wars of the 1990s. what does written in stone have to do with this? are you telling me that you would sit down and talk with a government that that called for your anihilation...as if hey, "its not set in stone" let's be friends! i am surprised that you know this given your defense of them. but for the others that may not know this, let's see it laid out, something i had hoped you would do so as to discuss it:
