‘Widespread Cooling (Up To -1.0°C) In Western And Central Europe’

cancel2 2022

Canceled
A new study in Nature assesses a reduction in tree cover via urbanisation or by clearing forests for cropland can warm up a locality by 1°C within 10 years. In contrast, transitions from croplands and urban centers to forests leads to cooling. Europe has been cooling recently (1992-2015) from land cover transitions to forests.

60 minutes did a story on a long, long time skating race that the people of Holland have done. They have not had ice on the rivers for generations and they moved their national race to another country.
I saw a morning PBS show a few years ago on some gardeners in Minnesota. It never mentioned global warming. They were long time climate observers and they talked about crops they could plant now that they could not in the past and how the plant date kept moving down the calendar.
Global warming is real. Scientists have the evidence.

Are you actually taking the time to debate his fundie nonsense with well-reasoned responses? That's generous of you.

I have never said that there hasn't been warming, it is inevitable after coming out of the Little Ice Age. That Nature paper raises some serious and interesting issues but you've just chosen to ignore them. As I've said many times, not enough apparently for you though, that I am a lukewarmer and believe that climate alarmism is mostly driven by politics and not science. If you know so much then you ought to be able to cite some of these scientists you mention and the evidence. Climate models do not provide empirical proof by the way.

You alluded to the Elfstedentocht, a skating race on Dutch canals. Let me give you a few facts as you seem grossly misinformed. The race started in 1909 and has only been run a total of 15 times in over a century. The race in 1963 was held in severe winter conditions but another race wasn't held till 1985, over 23 years, and that was terminated prematurely due to the ice thawing. The last successful event was in 1997 and an attempt was made to run the race in February 2012. However it was called off because some parts of the course had less than the required 15cm of ice even though in North Friesland the ice was around 25 cm thick. Temperatures as low as -22.9 °C were recorded in Lelystad but other parts of the course hadn't had long enough to grow the required thicknes of ice. I hope this helps you to not just quote stuff that you vaguely remember from the dim and distant past.

Sounds quite positive to me.

If you believe in global warming it is. Their long history of ice racing ended because they no longer have ice.

You obviously don't watch the Olympic channel. THe Dutch have not only not ended speed skating but they still dominate .
You're as clueless as Katie Couric trying to announce speed skating during the olympics. (Now that was pure karma.)

Quit lying.

The Elfstedentocht is a long-distance tour skating event, almost 120 miles long, which is held both as a speed skating competition (with 300 contestants) and a leisure tour (with 16,000 skaters). It is held in the province of Friesland in the north of the Netherlands, leading past all eleven historical cities of the province.

The tour is held at most once a year, only when the natural ice along the entire course is at least 6 inches thick; sometimes on consecutive years, other times with gaps that may exceed 20 years. The last tours were held in 1985, 1986 and 1997.

When the ice is suitable, the tour is announced and starts within 48 hours.

The tour is held only if the ice is, and remains, at least 6 inches thick along the entire course as about 15,000 amateur skaters will take part, putting high requirements on the quality of the ice.

An "alternative Elfstedentocht" has been held every year in January since 1989 on the Weissensee in Carinthia, Austria.

They will have to go to rollerskating. Oh well.

Nerdberg is lying. The Dutch have ice on their canals in winter. The requirements for the Elfstedentocht are so stringent that the race has been cancelled many times in the past.

Here we see people skating in Amsterdam in 2018:

Nuttingberger is a truly woefully ill-informed character. The real sadness is that be could easily look up the info beforehand but prefers to just post mindless waffle and bullshit instead.
