Widower of 73-year-old New Orleans woman who was dragged, killed by carjacking teens sues their parents

The widower of the 73-year-old woman who was killed in a deadly carjacking last year in New Orleans, is suing the parents of the teenagers responsible for the victim's death.

Linda Frickey was killed during a March 2022 carjacking after four teenagers dragged the woman behind her own vehicle, severing her arm. An 18-year-old man was convicted of second-degree murder and three girls aged 15 to 17 pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the fatal carjacking.

The teenagers sped away with Ms. Frickey in the car, trapped by her seatbelt, until one of her arms was severed. She succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

Now, Rickey Frickey is seeking $50,000 in damages for his wife's brutal death, loss of income and emotional distress, according to The Times-Picayune.

Mr. Frickey's sister, Kathy Richard, told nola.com that her brother is planning to file the civil lawsuit against the parents to show that parents have accountability over their children and to "bring awareness to the public that if your children commit crimes, you are liable."....

I posted this because I know Anonymoose follows the case of the brutal murder of Mrs. Frickey.

I'm glad that her husband is going after some accountability. These parents should be accountable for their evil spawn. It is unquestionable that their bad parenting helped lead to these juvenile predators. Stealing a car is one thing but the vicious deadly attack on an old defenseless woman is entirely another thing. They did not have to brutalize Mrs. Frickey to take her car. They obviously did that for kicks. This kind of behavior starts with bad or no parenting. In my opinion 50K is largely a symbolic amount meant to tell the public that parents are responsible for their spawn.

This is a horrible story - definitely feel for the widower, and what happened to his wife is unimaginable.

I don't disagree necessarily w/ taking this to court. But good parenting can sometimes only go so far. Not all criminals and deviants are the result of a bad upbringing. There are times when parents do all they can, but their kids turn out bad.

If the parents are found liable, I would hope it's because true negligent parenting can be proven.

Indeed. But parents still should be liable for the damage their minor kids do.

Defense attorney William Boggs reportedly urged the jury to consider Honore's youth and immaturity.

Boggs reportedly pointed to the actions of Honore's dad, stating, "There you are with your teenage son wearing a pornographic shirt, flipping off the camera with your son flashing gang signs. If you need to know where this came from, you can look at the sins of a father.”

These parents let the street raise their spawn.

This type of parenting is indeed a problem...if a child is raised around angry, aggressive, abusive, neglectful adults their entire life...then throw in social media violence, anti social and immoral attitudes, drug use, poverty, possibly gang activity, etc. it's no wonder a child has no respect for anything...and truly doesn't differentiate right from wrong...Youth and immaturity doesn't lead to grand theft auto and violently killing and attacking an elderly stranger...One of the girls involved fled...she possibly had an idea that what was happening was horrific...the other girls were at the very least remorseful...
Not the male...not in any way, shape, or form...
Holding the parents responsible may send a message to others who are refusing to properly raise their children...

Indeed.

Criminal liability is the same as civil liability: Parents must pay for the damage done by the child. Parents are not charged for their children's acts because they did not commit the crime. U.S. criminal law does not prosecute individuals for crimes they did not commit.

Though in California, the parents of 17 year olds and younger are held civilly and criminally responsible.

If this case goes to a liberal judge, the most thevboy will get is youth detention for a few months.

The law doesn’t seem to matter any more.

I stayed out of trouble because I feared my dad more than I feared the police. And my dad was a great dad.

Exactly. My Dad walked softly and carried a big stick. Slow to anger, very measured, did all he could to avoid argument and trouble,... but when driven too far you didnt want to be the one that anger got released on. Yeah,...we listened when he spoke and we minded our P's and Q's.

Precisely, I only heard my dad use profanity once. It was when I accidentally closed a garage door on his hand. My younger brother told me dad only said one profane word to him. Dad was teaching him to drive and my brother almost ran a red light on a busy street. Dad had a strong moral character. After dad passed I ran into a guy that worked with my dad for 20+ years. He spontaneously told me dad was the most honest man he had ever met. He always told us that we represented him and he expected that we would act like it. I did not want to disappoint him.

I think he's going to be punished to the fullest extent of the law...
At least I hope he is...
He's a danger to society...he not only murdered, but tortured an elderly woman... the girls got prison sentences...

Somehow, when I saw the thread title, I just KNEW you'd be here to dump on those awful, bad, horrible black parents. Surprise, surprise.

Do you think you'll someday get around to blaming Dylann Roof's parents? What about Adam Lanza's?

Speaking of the girl that ran away, I hope she gets out significantly earlier than the other two girls. She apparently didn’t want to be a part of what was happening.
Earlier release would send a message.

Benn Roof, who tried to explain to his son how his actions hurt their entire family.

You really don’t see the difference, do you?
To defend monsters only because they’re black makes you one of them… a monster.
Fuck you FoulWoman. You’re heinous.

Symbolic. The slime that spawned those animals are no doubt on welfare, the #1 economic driver of New Orleans.

Sorry. I never fuck racists, crazy people, bigots, idiots, or liars.

Dismissed!
