Wikileaks must stop "dangerous" leaks: military

They will try to make it secret but I doubt if they will get away with it. Governments always invoke national security when they are deeply embarrassed by their own lack of security, it is the supreme irony in my opinion.

These diplomats and ambassadors have got to be either the most arrogant or the most clueless individuals ever to hold government jobs. They never learned what the rest of us low-level working schmucks learned from the get-go, and that is "don't put it in writing".

I was listening to a program on NPR, the papers were being quoted and these people were on the short list of those getting trashed: Angela Merkel, Silvio Berlusconi, Vladimir Putin, Nicholas Sarkozy, and Dimitri Medvedev. Now Hillary has to travel all over the world to mop up the mess that was created.

This isn't to say I condemn the leaks, just the people who put their inappropriate comments on the record. If the docs were filled with flattering or at least neutral comments about various heads of state, no problemo. Instead, any suspicions these world leaders had of the US are now being confirmed, and that can't be good for us.

There has always been a vast disparity between what governments say in public and what they say in private, but what has really been exposed is the pathetic controls over the private diplomatic traffic. That they are deeply embarrassed is only right and proper, maybe some lessons will be learned?

We all applaud the successful thwarting of the Christmas-Tree Bomber and hope our government continues to do all it can to keep us safe. However, the latest round of publications of leaked classified U.S. documents through the shady organization called WikiLeaks raises serious questions about the Obama administration's incompetent handling of this whole fiasco.

First and foremost, what steps were taken to stop WikiLeaks director Julian Assange from distributing this highly sensitive classified material especially after he had already published material not once but twice in the previous months? Assange is not a "journalist," any more than the "editor" of Al Qaeda's new English-language magazine Inspire is a "journalist." He is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands. His past posting of classified documents revealed the identity of more than 100 Afghan sources to the Taliban. Why was he not pursued with the same urgency we pursue Al Qaeda and Taliban leaders?

What, if any, diplomatic pressure was brought to bear on NATO, EU, and other allies to disrupt WikiLeaks' technical infrastructure? Did we use all the cyber-tools at our disposal to permanently dismantle WikiLeaks? Were individuals working for WikiLeaks on these document leaks investigated? Shouldn't they at least have had their financial assets frozen just as we do to individuals who provide material support for terrorist organizations?

I am sure you are right in their intentions, however I think that it will be incredibly difficult to do because of all the media attention.

Most likely. Violating OPSEC is pretty serious, and since this is getting national attention, he's going to lost in the woods.
