Will Smith slap: Workplace violence isn’t tolerated in normal industries

I dont like how much attention its getting when kids are getting shot on streets every day.

Sports, art, entertainment, trolling on political message boards - anything pop culture related - pales in comparison to kids getting shot everyday. We can definitely spend more time talking about it because it's important. When it gets brought up here, like most subjects, it turns into mindless political partisanship bickering.

You tell me why people get desensitized to violence. Why young kids get killed in Oakland and a day later its off the news and we're on to the next. Why do young people wile out and DGAF about killing innocent children? They're just collateral damage in the game. What's going on will all that?

I'm not a lawyer and I was not able to find this info on the Internet...

...BUT I think many states will prosecute an assault committed in public whether the "victim" presses charges or not.

Not sure how I feel about that.

Yeah, the law was one way on that in the past, but now I think it's different.

Leftist desensitization to the sanctity of life. Basically, with their indoctrination programs in the public schools, there's a couple generations of quasi-state babies running around free in America and they are the future!

We R fucked.

No regard for the sanctity of life, no belief in God, no empathy, no respect for the elderly, no morals. Millions of apathetic sociopaths. :(

Nothing if you condone violence. Where do you draw the line on violence, TOW? So first a slap, then a punch then blow his fucking head off.

IMO this whole event is just more Hollywood nonsense. That being said, if you two were out in public and some random guy came up and called your wife a skank, what would you do? Legally you would be guilty of assault if you laid a hand on him. Would you just laugh and keep on going?

This will pass in a couple of days but while it dominates the news so many different takes on this. Have seen a couple of black women celebrate it saying Smith was standing up for black women who our white supremist society beats down. Saw a white friend’s feminist wife write that Smith displayed faux masculinity and should have remained seated as he denied Jada Smith her agency.

I can’t say who is right or wrong but people are into it

Speaking to myself here but a counter argument to the one above of the black woman celebrating a black man standing up for a black woman. The Undefeated (now Andscape) is a leading (progressive) black sports/cultural site and here is their argument on this.

Will Smith’s slap at the Oscars wasn’t protecting anyone, certainly not his wife

Somehow, one of the most adored men in Hollywood positioned himself as a victim

It’s what I would encourage my husband to do. I would discourage him from confronting the guy. There are too many crazy people out there.

Most violence is nonsense. Road rage? Going postal? Husbands beating the shit out of their wives because they are losers at work?

Get between the idiot and my wife then walk away...which my hand in my pocket. LOL.

OTOH, if I knew the guy, I'd have to give it some thought. Sugar in his gas tank? Sand in his crankcase? Ice pick in all four tires? Pellets through his windows one night? Chlorine on his lawn spelling out "Pedo"? Those are all crimes.

While I accept the wisdom of "when seeking revenge, first dig two graves", I also accept the wisdom "revenge is a dish best served cold".

Bill Cosby had a funny bit on revenge. As a kid playing in the snow he was hit by another kid with a slushball. Clearly against the rules but Bill waited for his revenge. He made the perfect snowball and put it in the freezer until "July". He invited the kid to sit on his porch while Bill went inside on the pretense of getting drinks but to fetch his snowball. Unfortunately, his mother had thrown the snowball away so he went back outside and spit on the kid. LOL

You avoided my earlier question; why do you condone violence and what are the limits on that violence?

If you wanted to stay free and unharmed that day you would. Or had a speedy exit plan after a quick fight, at least.

Agreed.

It appears Jada egged Smith on in some manner; first he was laughing then he was hitting Rock. IMO, Jada Pinkett Smith is poison and poison should be avoided.

It would have been much better handled if Will had gone back up and got in Rock's face and stated that she was hurt by his remarks because she has a health condition, and told him to apologize to her. Another reason I think this was staged.

You can try to gaslight it away, but it's not going away. :dunno:

The difference is apparent in several friends' children where the older ones are normal, but the younger ones got the full indoctrination.

It's a recent thing..post 2000 at least.

I can speak to that. In San Francisco we have a number of homeless, drugged out and mentally ill people on the street. And not surprisingly they do and say things most of us in 'proper polite society' generally don't encourage. And that includes screaming various threats and obscenities at you when you pass them. For me at least, not something I'd want to fight over.

Question for you if I may. I'm a male and my instinct is often to protect my wife's honor. As we see the many diverse takes on what Will Smith did some say his actions to 'protect' his wife are rooted in male dominated patriarchy and instead of being celebrated should be called out and exposed. You may not have strong feelings one way or the other but if you do which way do you fall on that chart so to speak?

That makes you a deranged simp cuck danger to humanity.

It would depend on the circumstances. Your description of the mentally-ill street ppl is an instance where the best thing is to just ignore them and keep on going. I wouldn't expect my husband to get in someone's face who verbally insulted me; I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself -- and he would cheer me on. But if it was a physical altercation started by the other person, he would handle it physically. Nothing patriarchal about that; he's simply stronger and bigger than I am, and has had martial arts training.

I think Will Smith could have handled the "insult" better by going back on the stage, telling Rock that Mrs. Smith has a health condition and that his joke was hurtful, and have him apologize. If Rock refused, then who looks like the jerk?

I wish they'd reopen State Mental Hospitals. The Big Pharma "chemical restraint" way is not working. It was better before.

That boy down in Broward County? He would have been in Chattahoochee before he could have done that back in the day.

We passed a homeless dude ranting and raving on the side of the street just the other day. So much he was foaming at the mouth.
