Wisconsin Unions Failed

MADISON -- Kathleen Falk's drubbing in Tuesday's Democratic primary has some political insiders questioning the decisions, and influence, of the state's major public labor unions.

Falk, 60, was the first Democrat to enter the recall election, announcing her candidacy even before the race was official. Major labor unions, including the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the Wisconsin Education Association Council, quickly endorsed her and then went on to spend nearly $5 million to help her win the nomination.

But on Tuesday, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett -- a candidate for whom the unions initially showed very little love -- defeated the former Dane County executive by 24 percentage points, a margin of victory all the more startling given that he entered the race late and was outspent 5-to-1.
Barrett's victory was even more pronounced in Dane County, Falk's backyard, where he won by 30 points.

"It was a very bad night for WEAC and AFSCME," said Mark Graul, a GOP political consultant who has worked on several campaigns. "When a union-backed candidate loses by 20 points in a Democratic primary, you have to question what sway the unions now have, not only in politics, but with their own members."

Falk's relationship with the state's major unions has been an issue since she entered the race. The partnership became controversial when it was revealed Falk had promised union leaders to veto any state budget that didn't repeal Gov. Scott Walker's collective bargaining law.

She was dubbed the "union candidate," a label that Mordecai Lee, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee political scientist, said became a "millstone" around her neck.

"This was a major overreach by unions and, frankly, it makes organized labor as a political force look almost like an empty suit," Lee said.

LOL

Even with all the union money, they still could not get their stooge a win. Gov. Walker got 7,500 more votes (6,538) than the top two Democrat candidates combined (619,049).

[h=1]One Million Recall Signatures and Only 650k Votes?[/h]
The numbers don’t lie, do they? That all depends, I guess, on which numbers you mean.

After a year of protesting and fighting to recall Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, an interesting number peered its way into the public yesterday—the primary vote tally. The total number of votes cast in the Democratic Party primary for Governor was only 650,725.

Why is this number so interesting?

Well, because we have all heard for months now how many furious Wisconsinites there are in the dairy state. And, of course, how they accounted for over one million signatures to recall Governor Walker. Over one million! That’s right, over one million Wisconsinites supposedly signed the petitions, but only 650,725 showed up to vote. That’s about 40% fewer voters than signers. How likely is that?

There has been much speculation over that past couple months that a large number of the signatures submitted were fraudulent, and this may very well be the best indicator of truth to the speculation--as well as an indication of just how many signatures were not legitimate. Since Governor Walker was denied adequate time from the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board to review and challenge the signatures, over 600,000 of them were never evaluated.

And since only 3.1 percent, a total of 19,591 people, voted for Scott Walker’s primary challenger, “fake republican” Arthur Kohl-Riggs, the lack of voter turnout in the Democrat primary could certainly not be accounted for in the Republican primary—unless a whole lot of republicans signed petitions too. Which leaves us wondering still, how many of those signatures turned in by unions and radicals alike were, in fact, legitimate?

If you signed a petition to recall your governor, what is the likelihood that you wouldn’t show up to vote on Election Day?

Democrats caught again.....what a shock.

One Million Recall Signatures and Only 650k Votes?

You can just imagine how many BOGUS names were on that recall petition.....

The news is saying that in one state they suspect thousands of illegals have registered to vote.....I forget which state it was....

The day we get proof of citizenship to vote will the beginning of the end for pinhead Democrats....but they'll fight it all the way....

It is a lot easier to get people to sign a petition than it is to get them to go out and vote in an election like this.

That said, the names on the recall were checked thoroughly. I don't doubt the sigs were legit. There are 350k union members in WI. Not hard for that big of a base to get friends/family to sign the petition.
