Wishing, Hoping and Praying

...for bombs.

Does anyone know what kind of people actually pray to God for the bombing of anyone? What kind of God do these people believe in?

Podhoretz has argued that “if we were to bomb the Iranians as I hope and pray we will…we’ll unleash a wave of anti-Americanism all over the world that will make the anti-Americanism we’ve experienced so far look like a lovefest.”

Norman Podhoretz, the “patriarch of neoconservatism,” recently published a book entitled “World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofascism,” staunchly supporting the Iraq war and pushing for war with Iran. In June, Podhoretz published a controversial piece in Commentary magazine titled “The Case for Bombing Iran.”

The Politico reports today that President Bush has been listening to Podhoretz’s radical agenda, recently enlisting Podhoretz to discuss his views on Iran. In a meeting that “was not on the president’s public schedule,” Bush and Karl Rove “sat listening to Norman Podhoretz for roughly 45 minutes at the White House”:

Rove was silent throughout, though he took notes. The president listened diligently, Podhoretz said as he recounted the conversation months later, but he “didn’t tip his hand.”

“I did say to [the president], that people ask: Why are you spending all this time negotiating sanctions? Time is passing. I said, my friend [Robert] Kagan wrote a column which he said you were giving ‘futility its chance.’ And both he and Karl Rove burst out laughing.

“It struck me,” Podhoretz added, “that if they really believed that there was a chance for these negotiations and sanctions to work, they would not have laughed. They would have got their backs up and said, ‘No, no, it’s not futile, there’s a very good chance.’”

President Bush has loyally supported Podhoretz’s agenda in the past. In 2004, he bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor — on Podhoretz, calling him a “fierce intellectual man” with “fine writing and a “great love for our country.”

Today, Podhoretz’s calls for bombing Iran are being echoed in the administration. According to Newsweek, Vice President Cheney considered a plan to allow Israel to conduct missile strikes against Iran “in an effort to draw a military response from Iran, which could in turn spark a U.S. offensive against targets in the Islamic Republic.”

Podhoretz has argued that “if we were to bomb the Iranians as I hope and pray we will…we’ll unleash a wave of anti-Americanism all over the world that will make the anti-Americanism we’ve experienced so far look like a lovefest.” By enlisting Podhoretz’s advice, President Bush is demonstrating that there isn’t any idea too radical for him to consider.

This is just sick.

But, unsuprising. We've been hearing the warcry of the chickenhawks for months, if not years, regarding iran. Just go visit some rightwing dominated message boards. you know what I'm talking about.

Q: What kind of international fallout can we expect from such a campaign?

PODHORETZ: Well, if we were to bomb the Iranians as I hope and pray we will, we’ll unleash a wave of anti-Americanism all over the world that will make the anti-Americanism we’ve experienced so far look like a lovefest. On the other hand — that’s a worst case scenario, and worst case scenarios don’t always materialize. It’s entirely possible that many countries, particularly in the Middle East — the Sunni countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, who are very worried about Iranian influence and power — would at least secretly applaud us. And I think it’s possible that other countries in Europe, for example, and elsewhere, would be relieved to see the Iranians entirely deprived of the capability to build nuclear weapons, or at least have that ability retarded for five or 10 years or more.

Is he still "hoping and praying we bomb the Iranians" here or not?

I can't watch video at work, but there is no context for that. You don't pray to God to drop bombs on people, and anyone who thinks you do, has serious problems, both mentally and spiritually.

IT is the god of abraham, of isaac, and the prophets, the god whom they are to inflict on the rest of the world throught the noahide laws. They were born for this. Amen.

I'm just going to say now, I'm against a war with Iran too! My reason to be against the Iraq war in 2003 was because we were still fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan and we shouldn't have spread our forces, as well as I didn't find Saddam to be a threat because we just whooped his forces asses in the early 90's.

Iran however, has a little more capability than Iraq, but now I won't support this war because I don't trust this administration and don't believe a damn thing he or his chickhawks have to say. They have no merit.

I had a debate w/ a fundie Christian on the other board once (he was a short-lived poster). I tried arguing w/ him that Jesus was a pacifist & would never support a war with Iraq, and he came back at me w/ the crazy depiction of Jesus in "Revelations," wielding a sword & wearing a blood-soaked robe. His whole take was that Jesus was much more of a vengeful warrior, and that the peaceful/philosopher image was a leftie/hippie fabrication.

Weird...

A sword is too primitive for jesus. He may come, or not, but if he does, he will shoot lazers out of his eyes.

I'm so sure it was "the hippies" who wrote the Sermon on the mount. They are really hysterical.

Ok, you're on record Dave.

I will bet anyone right now, that there are people who are already getting ready to claim, one year from now after we have bombed Iran and the nightmare scenerio plays itself out, that they were "against it from the beginning and said so", but who aren't going to say so too loudly, or even explicitly in a low voice.

The Christain/Secular people........

of Iran support the invasion of Iran...of course they do not want to be bombed(personally)..but want the Imans and such to be bombed...y'all are talking apples and oranges...I have a friend who said they need our help...NOW!

The Transcript below is word for word what he said.

This is also the guy that Rudy Giuliani currently has advising him on foreign policy matters. Apparently Giuliani is convinced that Bigger, Badder Bush is what the American people want.

Add me onto that list too. Apparently you have to stake out your opposition to wars considerably before they even begin. I'll go ahead and be safe and condemn our unilateral military actions in Iran.

Let's see what he has to say about that:

12 Commitments
I will keep America on offense in the Terrorists' War on Us.

I will end illegal immigration, secure our borders, and identify every non-citizen in our nation.

I will restore fiscal discipline and cut wasteful Washington spending.

I will cut taxes and reform the tax code.

I will impose accountability on Washington.

I will lead America towards energy independence.

I will give Americans more control over and access to health care with affordable and portable free-market solutions.

I will increase adoptions, decrease abortions, and protect the quality of life for our children.

I will reform the legal system and appoint strict constructionist judges.

I will ensure that every community in America is prepared for terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

I will provide access to a quality education to every child in America by giving real school choice to parents.

I will expand America's involvement in the global economy and strengthen our reputation around the world.

Then I guess I'd better state here and now that I am against any and all undeclared wars, as this "war" would also be, and therefore am against any bombing of Iran as well.

So you, me, and Diving are all preemptively opposed to Iran now.
