Why was Jordan Neely on the subway? He should have been either incarcerated or in a residential program getting help for his mental illness. Neither of us were there, so it's impossible to tell how this unfolded until all the details have been revealed...What would you have done if you were in this car with a mentally ill person out of control? Daniel Penny was not the only one who stepped up....
It's a terrible shame a life was lost...and a terrible shame this was so poorly...and politically... handled...
Many people to blame here...
I don't write the laws of our nation. I am not a policeman nor am I a veteran of foreign war.
I was just stating facts- facts about how Police and Attorney generals handle accidental deaths at the hands of another person.
People seem to be shocked that the Killer in this case was charged with manslaughter, when that was the proper thing to do according to the law.
Was Daniel Penny really a hero? In my opinion NO! Because if someone is so ignorant about how easy it is to suffocate and kill someone in a choke hold, then he had no business involving himself in the matter. Heroes do not kill people unless people's lives are truly at risk.
According to witness testimony, and recorded video and audio of the event from start to finish, the victim was more of a danger to himself than any of the passengers on the subway that was witness to and concerned about the mans strange behaviors.
The police weighed the evidence and had no other choice but to arrest the killer and charge him for manslaughter. Not my law- but law of the land in 50 states.
Now, you can call Daniel Penny a hero, or refer to him as an accidental killer, but the fact remains, a man died unnecessarily at the hands of this man that involved himself and is now a killer. It is no question who killed who here. The only question remaining is why is this man dead? And what is obvious to everyone is the Killer over-reacted by applying unnecessary deadly force and a man died because of it.
Having mental problems is not a death sentence. And people that involve themselves and end up getting people killed by their actions in the process, must also face the consequences of their own actions.
This was a situation that would have best been handled by the police. So calling the police would have been the smart thing to do.
