Youtube seems to average speeds over a long period of time. Usually, when I do a straight speedtest I'll get somewhere between 1 mbps and 1.5 mbps. I never get more than this, as 1.5 mbps is the cap.

Read that again, nowhere has gigabit speeds available to Joe Public. This is only possible using a modulation technique called dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) which is used by large carriers for their backhaul traffic.

That is several times faster than Sata's maximum possible bandwidth, and almost a hundred times faster than a standard hard drive.
