No, I am not afraid of Moslems. I am not afraid of black men. I am not afraid of any one group of people because of what a small group of people inside that group may have done. However, I understand the psychology of that fear in others. What Williams did was voice his fear. What you and others have done is equate him with Kluckers and skinheads. His fear based on a prejudice is not the same as people who live their whole lives fearing and hating a whole group because they are black or engaged in some fictional Noahide conspiracy. To quote Jules Winnfield, "ain't the same fucking ball park. It ain't the same league. It ain't even the same fucking sport."Then you do as well, correct?

Dude, you said that a person's mode of dress that indicates the persons religion makes you nervous. That's bigoted. I don't think you're a racist or a bigot as a general matter, but that's a bigoted thing to think. And there isn't really much doubt about.
If it makes you feel better, Jesse Jackson's comments were bigoted, too. So was Juan Williams's comment. I don't think either of those guys are bigots, though.
Well until 5 posts ago you had not acknowledged that Williams was not a bigot. There has been the effort on here to avoid seeing that the Jackson comments were every bit as bigoted as the Williams comment and until I brought it up, the trend was to compare Williams to O'Reilly and make him appear to be a right wing muslim hater. It has taken 100 posts for any on the left to acknowledge this.
It gets worse for them. Just after the $1.8 Million donation from Soros they fire this guy and say that it was because he expressed an opinion as a News Analyst, and that News Analysts and reporters aren't allowed...http://www.realclearpolitics.com/vi...r_fired_him_for_making_bigoted_statement.html
Sorry, but this is quite ridiculous. He was fired for sharing his feelings on this? He stated that we have to be careful not to be bigoted, but he had to be honest that he did a double take when in airports when he saw people in Muslim garb as it made him nervous.
If we can't have honest discussions about how things make us feel, then we have NO chance to resolve differences.
One more reason NPR should lose all federal funding. They are too ignorant to exist.

The topic they were discussing was whether political correctness is curbing our ability to speak about things like the feeling Juan might get when on a plane with people dressed and clearly identifying as solely Muslims. That's idiotic. You're just trying to cover your tracks. Fact is, you were putting words in my mouth well after I clarified my views, several times.
I even said much earlier in the thread that my problem was not so much w/ Juan's feelings on the plane, but with his blanket agreement w/ O'Reilly's views on the topic, which I feel are fairly indefensible.

What is it about O'Reilly's views on that topic (you know this one: political correctness curbs our ability to handle problems as we are no longer able to speak on them) are "indefensible"?
It gets worse for them. Just after the $1.8 Million donation from Soros they fire this guy and say that it was because he expressed an opinion as a News Analyst, and that News Analysts and reporters aren't allowed...
Does anybody remember that lady who (paraphrasing here, obviously, no quote boxes) wished that Helms and/or his grandchildren would get AIDS? Seriously, she wasn't just an analyst, she was whole hawg NPR reporter going all into political positions...
I mean, if they had even a modicum of a past for firing people in reporting or analyzing roles for saying horrific stuff they might have some credibility for this excuse, but seriously there isn't any. They fired him for working at FOX and speaking his mind. The government owned and run radio station just took government action against political speech. This isn't going to go down well with anybody at all except the most slavering imbecile who worships everything that may come from the left...
Now we know what $1.8 Million can buy you a radio station's loyalty without having to invest the actual money it would take to buy one.
First of all, not all of "the left" supports NPR. I know it makes it easier for you to demagogue if you pretend otherwise, but get you head out of your ass.
A hugh majority of the left supports NPR....95%? 97%? 99%? whatever...
For all practical purposes, we'll correctly say ALL....
Second, I really don't remember what the reaction was 11 years ago when Jesse Jackson made that comment. I'm guessing you have no fucking idea either but your memory was helpfully refreshed by some right-wing jackass comparing what Jesse said to what Juan said.
I do remember.....Jesse was called out by Jews, Conservatives, and Republicans....his bigotry was largely ignored by the left, and the silence from MSM was deafening....a token mention if mentioned at all....
Third, it's fine to talk about our prejudices. But if you go on television and start talking about how afraid you are of Muslims and that it bothers you when Muslims identify as Muslims, your employer doesn't have keep you. And, Juan Williams is supposed to be an unbiased and objective journalist.
The prejudicial generalization of an entire group of people based solely on their religion.
To be fair, he did it both ways. After he said "Muslims attacked us," he qualified it with "I really like Muslims, though"....

What is truly amazing is that they fired him for ONE PORTION of his comments, despite the fact that he stated rather clearly how irrational that thought process was.
They were looking for an excuse to fire him.... most likely because they never liked the fact he appears on Fox.
Or.... they are indeed racists. I will let Nigel (the hack mouthpiece for NPR) tell us which it is.
MUSLIMS ATTACKED US! That is a FACT! It shouldn't be politically incorrect to say that! Granted, they were radical Muslims, extremists, maybe even fringe extremists, but they were indeed Muslims! Why is THAT bigoted or prejudiced? When the Japanese attacked us at Pearl Harbor, did we say it was "radical" Japanese? I suspect there were a great many Japanese who didn't approve of the attack, but it doesn't change the fact of who attacked us!
