Since Pelosi lives four blocks from me in S.F. and DiFi live 3 1/2 blocks from me I might just go knock on their door to let them know. Oh, I've fallen for the 'write your reps' trick before. The response was beyond humorous.

Earmarks are simply legislative directions on how the executive should spend money. Eliminating earmarks would vastly increase the powers of the president.

I agree that "secret amendments" need to be done away with, and porkish amendments need to be voted on independently, but getting rid of the legislatures ability to police the money the executive is spending would be a terrible idea.

grew up there but have lived in S.F. for past 15 years. I shouldn't be negative on people writing their Congressperson but I did it once to Barbara Boxer and I got a canned response e-mail listing her accomplishments. Maybe in places other than California where the state is not so populous there is a chance to have better interaction or feedback from their Reps.
