Hundreds of private emails and documents allegedly exchanged between some of the world's leading climate scientists during the past 13 years have been stolen by hackers and leaked online, it emerged today.

The computer files were apparently accessed earlier this week from servers at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, a world-renowned centre focused on the study of natural and anthropogenic climate change.

Climate change skeptics who have studied the emails allege they provide "smoking gun" evidence that some of the climatologists colluded in manipulating data to support the widely held view that climate change is real, and is being largely caused by the actions of mankind.
 
"The veracity of the emails has not been confirmed and the scientists involved have declined to comment on the story, which broke on a blog called The Air Vent."

One would think it would be prudent to wait until this gets confirmed before announcing to the world that the huge majority of scientific research that supports global warming findings is bunk.

One would. However, that doesn't change that this is big news. Whether they are "fakes" (doubt it).

In one email, dated November 1999, one scientist wrote: "I've just completed Mike's Nature [the science journal] trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie, from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline."

Does that sound legit to you? You really want to say some scientist wrote that in an email? Seriously?

What does the rest of the e-mail say? They reported one line of a full e-mail that was posted, probably for a reason. I wish I knew where to find this data dump.

And according to the people who did it, this is just a random selection...

Have at it, Damo. That doesn't sound legit at all. It sounds an awful lot like something Tinfoil would write if he were fabricating an email from a scientist to another scientist.

I ignore people who are insufferable. Bravo is one of them. I'd not have said anything, but for the fact that Damo claimed there was some big news. Turned out to just be a hoax. Thats where my money is.

Yeah. You can be unbearable sometimes, so I ignore you. You'll make utterly retarded arguments and stick to your guns in a Dixiesque manner.

Ignore, from my perspective, is the best tool to keep this board tolerable. You weren't around when this board used to be better. I've been posting since the grandfather of this board was active and it used to be a wonderful place. Most people will tell you that this board has fallen in quality quite significantly since the AOL crowd showed up. Meme, Tutu, usfreedom911, Southern Man, et al have made it absolutely unusable. One will make a retarded point, and within seconds two or three others will jump in to give him a reach around. You can't have a worthwhile discussion like this, so I ignore the ones that aren't worth talking too. Bravo, Webbway and some others are just not worth the time of day. Sometimes you aren't either.

I'm hoping the perpetrators and their facilitators will be tracked down and prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows."
