Mandela travelled on Trump’s plane in 1990: Who paid for it?​


Donald Trump sent a 727 for Nelson Mandela’s trip to the US after he was released from prison. But it wasn’t a gift.

It's true, Mandela used one of Trump’s planes to fly to the US.

But the travel was not one of Trump’s “charitable donations”, as some Trump supporters have claimed.

It was a $130,000 business transaction.

Christine Dolan, who handled Mandela’s travel logistics, told the Los Angeles Times that Mandela’s team contacted Trump asking to rent his private jet. Trump said the jet was being serviced but he offered one of his Boeing 727 commercial planes.

At the time, Trump owned an airline, Trump Shuttle, that operated flights between New York City, Washington, DC and Boston.

“The Mandela Welcoming Committee is very thankful to Donald Trump,” Dolan told the Los Angeles Times.

But the plane ride was not free. Mandela’s team rented a Trump Shuttle plane for $130,000, Dolan told the newspaper.

Trump’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

80 people round trip Africa USA plus many stops in America......130K was probably salaries of the flight crew and jet fuel only.....if so Trump was very generous.....and this was almost certainly the best deal they got.

But for his good deed Trump gets smeared.

Probably? According to....?

And nobody has "smeared" anyone.
 
Dont forget too that there were two transatlantic deadheads....with cabin crew.....130K sounds like an exceptionally good deal....Trump should be getting cheered...instead he is being painted as a profiteer....which is a lie in this case.
 
The mistake for the Regime here was letting the original article stand and be able to be found by Google....as this Revolution advances that will end.....we already see massive amounts of stealth editing of old stuff on the internet, and removal of things the Regime does not want us to see.

"The truth, based on news reports at the time: The Trump Shuttle was in financial trouble because Trump made a bad deal and ended up with too many 727s. He had already put the airline up for sale and would soon lose control of it to the banks. He didn't offer his own plane but charged Mandela $130,000 to borrow one of his unused jets."

I have been watching Trump for 40 years....your claim that Trump does not do charity is not remotely true...it is not just a lie it is a damn lie.
