Yet Another Heavyweight Added to Global Warming Sceptics List

Good business sense? The majority of Americans believe that human caused global warming is real. It wouldn't be a "great business deal" to alienate over half of the population.

He no longer is affiliated in any way with the Weather Channel. His good business sense was in creating The Weather Channel in the first place. That's all I was referring to.

The idea that he is some sort of authority because he has the good business sense to create a channel focusing exclusively on the weather, The Weather Channel, does not make him an authority on the topic of global climate change. That is all.

Ah, but his being a meteorologist just might.

I'm not saying he's right, I don't argue this inane subject. I don't need the "Dooom" incentive to curb my pollutants. I do it because I want clean air. Next year I'll even be off the grid entirely when I finally have enough batteries to save up the sun power....

I'll even be able to sell some back.

However, attacking somebody who made their living as a science who studied the environment because they aren't expert enough for you is plain disturbing.

I'd like to see him write something for a peer reviewed journal on the subject. That would get my attention.

What are you talking about?

When you appeal to authority (Heavyweight!!, founder of The Weather Channel!), it is perfectly appropriate to point out that the so-called authority isn't an authority at all but it merely a TV weatherman with a good business sense.

Is he just a weatherman or a meteorologist? The stupid ad hom I am talking about though, is the idea that because he is a businessman he can't be trusted. It's fucking retarded.

I hadn't suggested that he can't be trusted because he's a businessman. I'm merely stating that being a TV weatherman who founded a weather-based TV station doesn't render him a "heavyweight" (or even a middleweight for that matter) on the issue of global climate change.

As to what his credentials are, I haven't seen his curriculum vitae.

I am just saying he might have other considerations besides purely scientific in how he spins his story. I never said that because he is a business man he can't be trusted. Are you fucking retarded or just can't read ?

This bloke shot himself in the foot. He should have been whipping it up.

"Next season on "The Weather Channel" - Superstorms! With the increase in global climate change we have a range of climate crises to bring you. Superstorms at Sea! Snow in the Sahara! Drought in the Congo! You can subscribe to our premium pay-per-view-disaster service, it saves you walking outside your own front door to see the disaster happening right in front of you! So stay indoors, watch the tube and see your very own neighbourhood in flood!"

Dill, he needs a good marketer.

The comments were not directed at you.

You insinuated his revenues were dependent on a certain spin. That is wild speculation and has no basis in fact.

Most advertisers don't give a crap what you are putting on air (so long as it is not far beyond what is deemed acceptable), just how many people are watching. Also, if this were true we'd hear nothing but anti anthropegenic warming stories on the networks and they are virtually all the reverse.

You guys always use ad homs on this subject and you never consider that there is no grant money for scientists in saying all is well.

I seem to recall another person who was enjoying the warmer winter weather...busted!

There are many benefits to daily life with warmer weather:
- less road accidents and deaths from ice and limited eyesight
- less salt on roads to rust fancy German cars
- less cost/need for winter tires
- yes less shovelling, hard on people's backs (Rob think of your mom)
- less need and bother for expensive winter clothing
- less heating costs
- less cost in taxes for snow removal
- longer growing season
- less blizzards
- more enjoyable weather overall

All statistics show that even the most polluted outdoor air in America is far more healthy than the indoor air you are breathing now. Mold and dust are bad for asthma and they are indoors.
Warmer weather means more days you can open up the window and get fresher air.

Lemme guess!!! This is just off the top of your head, right?

Did it ever occur to you to do some research on how a 1, 2 or 5 degree shift in average global temperature affects ecosystems, weather patterns, the oceanic food chain, water supply, habitats and agriculture, et al.?

Or do you want to stick with the "retarded as it could possibly get" lines like "more enjoyable weather overall?"

its funny b/c setting aside global warming going more green and reducing greenhouse gases would reduce deaths, reduce health issues such as asthma and help to reduce the growing stress put on our healthcare system. It would also increase the enjoyment of life on everyone, but i guess dano just likes to pollute and loves the idea of not shoveling in winter.

And who pays for that health, I wonder?

EDIT: By the way, I have returned.
