WASHINGTON - House Democratic leaders abandoned a long struggle to appease the most ardent abortion opponents in their ranks, gambling Thursday that they can secure the support for President Barack Obama's sweeping health care legislation with showdown votes looming next week.

In doing so, they are all but counting out a small but potentially decisive group whose views on abortion coverage have become the principal hang-up for Democrats fighting to achieve the biggest change in American health care in generations. Congressional leaders are hoping they can find enough support from other wavering Democrats to pass legislation that only cleared the House by five votes in an earlier incarnation.

Democratic leaders are working to rally rank-and-file members around agreements on several complicated points, health insurance taxes and prescription drug coverage among them, and dozens of other sticky issues — all as Republicans stand ready to oppose the overhaul en masse.

Ok, this is relevant only in that I can't see this woman's commercial without thinking about Watermark and his hatred over her not voting for a certain health care package. I laugh every time I see this and think, "how true this seems." I wanted to embed the youtube video in this post but don't have the knowledge I guess. :(

Oh, and Watermark, you'll either get this lady back or a republican in her place. :)

I have assumed for months that we would inevitably get a Health Care Bill passed through, Jarod. However, it really is looking less, rather than more likely, that one will actually pass through...

I would just like to say, I wholeheartedly WELCOME a vote! What the hell are we waiting for? Ohyeah... Nancy has to twist a few more arms, bribe a few more people, threaten to 'out' them or whatever... she still doesn't have the votes for a simple majority!

This will go down as one of the worst political blunders in American history. Democrats are poised to commit political suicide over this, and nothing is going to stop them from it, dammit! I say... GOOD FOR YOU!

Ohh, ya, and Iraq had WMD!

It is about time that you joined the other civilised countries of the world by introducing universal healthcare. You are the richest country in the world at the minute. If countries like Holland can afford it, so can you.

It will be a great achievement for America to scrap its wealth and insurance company death panels.

so much for obama's oft repeated statement that we will not have healthcare with a 50+1 vote, we will have a 60 vote majority, that is how yoiu pass important legislation, not by this 50+1 vote...

more obama lies and jarod doing nothing but kissing his ass

Ya, like Bush passed his pill bill, were you complaining then?

Hellz yeah!

Here's another Dixie prognostication that we stick right next to his bold prediction that "Letterman is G-O-N-E"!

Remember that one Dix? When do you think Letterman will be leaving?

dishonest deflection, and more of...well, bush did it too

further, i don't recall bush ever repeatedly claiming he was against the 50+1 vote like obama has done....i am not surprised that you don't hold obama to his words and instead have to focus on george w bush. pure partisan hackery jarod.

what hypocrisy jarod?

and why can't you hold obama to his words jarod? he is the one who said it, not bush. why aren't you calling obama a hypocrite for blasting bush and the repubs 50+1 votes, yet he is now advocating the same thing?

please don't tell me you're this big of a hack.

The moment they have the votes they would vote on this, that they haven't yet speaks volumes. They simply fear the representatives going back home to hear from their constituencies. It's time to make sure they hear us regardless.

I dont like him going back on his word, that uncool...

However I would rather him go back on his word than not get Health Care reform!

Obama is not perfect. He has failings and imperfections, he has done many things I disagree with, but I am not going to automatically hate everything he promotes, and when I want somethign passed, I am not going to let his mistakes get in the way of the ultimate goal.

It would be like saying you dont like the way your favorate team ran the ball instead of throwing it, so you wont accept the touchdown!
