Ronald Reagan supported some of the most oppressive regimes in Central American history all in the name of anti-communism. The El Salvadoran government was possibly the most brutal and received a great deal of military aid during the Reagan years. Almost a year after he took office the massacre at El Mozote took place where hundreds of civilians were murdered by the military the US trained. Reagan's administration LIED about the massacre and attempted to discredit the report. In 1992 El Salvador itself organized a truth commission which found that the Atlacatl Battalion of the Salvadoran army murdered every man woman and child in the village. Salvadoran soldier, José Wilfredo Salgado, told of returning to El Mozote several months after the massacre and collecting the skulls of the youngest victims, whose remains were exposed by recent rains, for "candleholders and good-luck charms. This is the type of people Reagan supported because they weren't communist. This is ALSO part of his legacy. If he was truly a liberator of the oppressed he would have told right wing central american governments to clean up their act or face elimination as well.

Raygun was an amiable dunce, who fucked this nation over.

One thing he did that was cool, was arms control with the soviets. I give him a high five for that because he did it over the objection of the rightwingers.

Other than that, raygun was a freaking asshole. Reagan opened your party's door to being dominated by the religious freaks, and to the dixiecrat racists. He transformed the republican party from being a respectable center-right party, into a party controlled by theocrats. Good job ronnie.

Ran up record deficts, was hostile to the gay and black commuities, engaged in coded race baiting, gave tax cuts to people who didn't need them, destroyed unions, enabled illegal immigration on a scale never seen before, and ushered the absolutely foolhardy and assholish mythology of deregulation. What a fucking joke. It took us 30 years to see what a fool reagan was with his fantasies about unfettered free markets.

Samoza was a criminal, he murdered and disappeared his own people, Daniel Ortega NEVER approached the level of murder that the Samoza government did. The Contras were criminals from the same cloth that raped women and murdered men in the name of freedom and our government supported them EVEN when we knew what they were doing. I served in the army then and I have some experience in that part of the world. They were criminals pure and simple.

We were TOLD the stimulus plan HAD to be approved immediately... if it didn't, all sorts of bad things were about to happen.... it simply HAD to be done RIGHT NOW to save the economy from certain disaster! So now we find, much of the bill will not really kick in until... oh, around October of 2010, when politicians are trying to get re-elected! This thing was a crock of shit from the get-go, and every damn one of them KNEW it!

It's only smart if the opposition isn't smart enough to point it out. Playing politics with people's lives isn't smart. If real jobs are lost, if real lives are destroyed, because they wanted to play with the economy and stimulate only in specific times, those people who lost jobs will retaliate at the booth, even if the stimulus picks up in the beginning of 2010.

Do you really think that is why the spending is so protracted...because they are "playing politics"?
